Vodafone connect router DHCP settings

mattman
4: Newbie

I have posted this into off topic as I can not see any reference to Vodafone Home phone and Broadband.

I have install the router and all is working but there one thing that is missing from the setting of the VDSL router that being a function to turn off DHCP, I have for the pasted 10 year had my own network running at home with a fully working server that is my DHCP & DNS server but for the first time in history I have just sign up for 18 month and got a bloody router that has no function in the GUI settings pages to turn OFF the DHCP server. So for now I will have to wait for 18 months before I can change ISP. thanks vodafone tech team for missing this one. If there is anyone out there that can offer me a firmware update to give me the function to turn OFF DHCP then please post it.

I called Vodafone lots about this, and they said they are not authorised to give the credentials, went to his manager, went to level 2, all the same story - no matter how much I advised I wished to officially complain.

I showed him this forum and he said then put me on hold and came back after 5 minues to tell me nobody was authorised to be giving these credentials and as such they could change so be careful before going out and paying hundreds for an expensive router!

I kept the poor guy at vodafone on hold inbetween attempts to get the details so much that he hung up in the end.

That's a shame. The situation I was in was that I had quite major issues and Voda tried to rectify and were supposed to all me back, but didn't so I called them and then they said leave it for a few days and they would call me back, which they did. The main driving point was that I have about 30 devices coming off the LAN ports (17 of which are Sonos) and about 10 on WiFi, Voda support said that wasn't going to work at all, to which the only answer would have been to replace the router with one that could cope. Or cancel my contract, but that wasn't discussed.

I got to the point where nothing would work at all and options were running out, so for anyone discussing this with Voda it would help to be in the same position.

As for routers, I got the Netgear Nightwak D7000, easy to set up (for me at least) and does the job just fine, looks butt ugly though.

They can't really do that and just change the credentials, also they have the settings available to advise users how to use their own 3rd party hardware (dont ask me how I know, I just do ;)...). They obviously are authorised to do so when required otherwise they wouldnt still be doing it.

It also seems to be dependant on who you get through to, as one was adamant it wasnt possible, and another who seemed alot more knowledgable than someone just giving the basic generic responses that they read off a script who then helped out straight away.

File an official complaint.. I had one typed up ready. Their hardware and firmware isnt fit for purpose.

Also with the dropping of the line rental charge, then thats surely changing the T&C's of the contract so may be able to use that to et out of the contact early and go to an ISP who actually have half decent customer service as VF's broadband support is the worst of the bunch.

Hello.
I have been reading through this with interest.

Today I also was able to acquire my login details.

I did it through the online chat support route.

I was quite direct without being rude and opened by stating that I wanted my broadband credentials so that I could hook up my own router as I felt that the VF router was responsible for some issues, I did not list them at first though.
She went off a couple of times and eventually got around to asking me for what reason I wanted to replace the router.

I explained that when connected over wifi, anything LAN connected (via powerline) around the house was not visible, the only time the LAN connected devices were visible was when I connected to a second router upstairs which has been set to AP mode only so I had isolated the issues to being directly to do with the VF router.
After another brief pause, she returned to have me verify that under no circumstances were they going to be able to offer any support as long as I run my own choice of router to which I responded that I completely understand why that would be and that I had no issuie with this.
Immediately after agreeing to this, she messaged over the creds.

I am not at home at the moment to begin ripping out the VF router in place of which I will be using my ASUS AC87U but I am hoping that it has the desired effect.
I will again get back the use of my OpenVPN at router level rather than individual devices and will undoubtedly have all devices be able to see eachother at all times again.
Problem now is, I lose an access point upstairs in my office room although I might have something knocking around to solve that problem, if not, I can pick something up.
I may pop another post once I have had the chance to set up the router and report how it goes.

Cool. I must admit the hardware in the vodafone connect is awesome. Being WiFi AC compatible, 66meg speedtest from the furthest point in my home is better than my own purchased access point!
Has anyone ever done digging into whether it is dd-wrt compatible? That'd wipe the floor with any medium level routers out there.

Well, I went out a picked up a TP-LINK modem router.

An Archer VR600 in fact.

Could not get it to work.

It kept failing reporting incorrect credentials in the system logs.

I tried a variety of different things but none worked.

This morning, one of the first things I did was get back onto the live chat support and asked to confirm the credentials to me, I had noted them correctly so I am doubtful that this is solely a matter of credentials.

I have a bee in my bonnet now about wanting to use something other than the Vodafone router because of a) the irritation of not being able to reach devices that ARE on the same network and b) I have read a few success stories from other people who have been delighted at how easy it has been to configure a different router that is up to par.

Not sure how much difference this would make but I cannot seem to manually set the multiplexing settings VPI and VCI in this piece of kit.
If anyone could perhaps shed any light on how likely or not that is to be a factor it would be appreciated.

Anyway, I am not done yet.

Also, for thos who have got this working, a question, what is the importance of selecting the BT_VDSL profile?
Is it merely that it gives you the VLAN ID of 101 by default or is there more to it than that?

Cheers!

I have a VR900 working, and used the BT_VSDL profile.

To be honest, I just tried it and it worked - I never delved into the details (which I would have done if it hadn't worked, of course).

If it helps, here are my settings (looking in the "Advanced" view):-

On the WAN interface, the "VPI/VCI or VID" is set to 101, which corresponds to the VLAN ID

Under DSL settings, we have:-

DSL Modulation Type: Auto Sync-up

Annex Type: Annex A/L/M

Bit Swap: Enabled

SRA: Enabled

Operation Mode is (as you would expect): DSL Modem Router Mode

Hope that helps.  If you need anything else checking (though I think that's all there is), let me know.

peecee, have tried using your Asus router and a stand alone modem? i.e. the one you used to get with BT Infinitity (Huawei EchoLife). That's the set up I'm currently using with no issues.

JIM: I have not tried that option but did think about it.

The thing is, I want an access point / router upstairs too and wifi struggles to get there from where it comes in downstairs.
Therefore, I am looking at a modem / router downstairs to serve downstairs and the garden (as well as possible) and then from a LAN port to a powerline adapter which is connected to an adapter in the lounge for TV and Pi etc etc and also one upstairs in my home office which I connect the ASUS too.

I then have LAN ports available for stuff that I prefer to cable in and a good wireless signal serving upstairs.

The settings you have posted Adrian look pretty much the same as I have here, having made a tweak here and there to see if I could change the error messages or make any progress.
The DSL status appears fine, it is just the authentication part that I could not get off the ground.

I could not see the 900 at the shop but just checked an emulator on the TP-Link site and it looks pretty much identical.

Hi, interested also in replacing the router with a TP Link VR600. Did anyone manage to get it hooked up? What is performance like?

Many thanks
