Vodafone connect router DHCP settings

mattman
4: Newbie

I have posted this into off topic as I can not see any reference to Vodafone Home phone and Broadband.

I have install the router and all is working but there one thing that is missing from the setting of the VDSL router that being a function to turn off DHCP, I have for the pasted 10 year had my own network running at home with a fully working server that is my DHCP & DNS server but for the first time in history I have just sign up for 18 month and got a bloody router that has no function in the GUI settings pages to turn OFF the DHCP server. So for now I will have to wait for 18 months before I can change ISP. thanks vodafone tech team for missing this one. If there is anyone out there that can offer me a firmware update to give me the function to turn OFF DHCP then please post it.

info: Welcome to Vodafone! You will now be connected with a service adviser. Your approximate wait time is 13 minute(s) and 0 seconds. . We’re looking forward to assisting you today.
info: You are now connected with Nathan.
Nathan: Hello you're speaking to Nathan today, How can I help?
Dave Chapman: Hi Nathan, I'm having issues with my voda router and I'd like some information. the next bit will take a bit of time to type so please bare with me
Nathan: Not a problem here to help
Dave Chapman: I'm having several issues with my vodafone router as it can't handle the network I have set up at home. I would like to request my login credentials, username and password, for the network so I can use my own router which can cope with the set up I have at home.
Nathan: Ok, I see now we are not supposed to give out the username and password
Nathan: this is because if anything goes wrong we cannot assist with correcting the issue if you use your own router
Dave Chapman: Hi Nathan,
Dave Chapman: I am aware of this but apparently as long as I am willing to accept full responsibility for my own actions the info has been given out
Dave Chapman: There is a whole thread on your forum about the issues people have been having and that voda have started giving out the details as long as the end user is willing to accept responsibility
Dave Chapman: http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Pay-monthly-products-services/Vodafone-connect-router-DHCP-settings/t...
Nathan: Well ok, if you are happy to accept the implications of having your own router then if you give your account number I can get the information for you
Dave Chapman: Thank you my account number is ***********
Nathan: Bare with me a moment while I access your account
Dave Chapman: No problem
Nathan: You have a 4 digit PIN on your account
Nathan: Can i take the third and fourth digits please?
Dave Chapman: **
Dave Chapman: I think
Nathan: Yes that was successful
Nathan: I will just get the information for you
Dave Chapman: Thank you
Nathan: Username: ************
Nathan: password: ***********
Dave Chapman: Thank you very much you've been very helpful
Nathan: Not a problem sir
Nathan: anything else I can help you with?
Dave Chapman: No thanks, that's everything and thank you again for the help. Have a good rest of the day.
Nathan: You too

Vodafones inconsistency here is embarrassing for them!!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone.

So I've just read this entire thread with great interest.  I've just switched my mobile to Vodafone and have been impressed with the data performance.

We've just come to the end of our BT contract (landline + Infinity 2) and, naturally, they've jacked our bill waaay up now that we're out of contract.

Vodafone's Fibre offer (without the line rental) looks like very good value.  But like lots of you here, I want to keep control of my home network gear.

Currently, I've got the Openreach VDSL modem paired with an Apple Airport Extreme 802.11ac router.  To BT's credit, the internet connection is rock-solid, and my home LAN and WLAN run perfectly.

From what I understand, I should be able to badger Vodafone into giving me my username and password.  I'm going to kick that process off before I even sign up by querying this in Live Chat tomorrow.  I'll point them to this forum and try to get something in writing that they'll be happy to give me the details once I sign up.

One quick question, the answer to which I've seen alluded to here, but would like to double-check:

Is it possible to keep using the Openreach VDSL box?  If so, am I right in thinking that the username/password combination are what I'd use in the Airport Extreme's PPPoE login?

Cheers (and thanks to everyone who proved this is possible!),

Chris

[EDIT: Oh, and I'd like to keep the Openreach modem because a) it's been 100% stable for 4 years now, and b) our phone socket is in the hallway without any extensions, with a run of CAT6 from the modem to the Airport in the living room where a bunch of other gigabit lines terminate.  It'd be a real pain to have to re-wire to accomodate the Vodafone box]

Hi Displaced,

You can continue to use the BT box, I had one in place for a while until I changed my modem (may still go back to that setup later :smileyhappy:)

The username /password is just for you Apple router. I did put the credentials into the openreach box hooked up straight to my pc just to check everything was working but for a normal setup they are just for the router as the openreach box is basically just a pass through device.

Cheers

Dave

Ok! Order placed, with a copy of a chat transcript where the assistant repeatedly confirmed I'd be able to request the username and password.

At the very least I'll be able to point to that if they give me any trouble!!

Well I managed to get my Username & Password earlier today and rushed out to buy a Netgear Router/Modem.

However, despite telling the setup I was in the UK with BT the username/password was constantly rejected.

I downloaded an updated firmware that even added Vodafone as an ISP provider. Selecting UK/Vodafone made no difference.

Somewhat disappointed so now I am off to hunt the thread for using the Vodafone box as a modem only with another router.

Did they give you the full username? When I was given my username it didn't include the @broadband.vodadone.co.uk part of it just the 12 digit alpha numeric first part and you obviously need the complete username for it to work.

After months of trying, finally got mine yesterday too!!! :Smiling: :Smiling:

@MadScientist.

Thank you, I had indeed omitted the "@broadband.vodafone.co.uk" from the Username.

I had it all boxed up ready to return to the shop.

Working fine now.......

To answer another question, I purchased a Netgear D7000
