Vodafone connect router DHCP settings

I have posted this into off topic as I can not see any reference to Vodafone Home phone and Broadband.

I have install the router and all is working but there one thing that is missing from the setting of the VDSL router that being a function to turn off DHCP, I have for the pasted 10 year had my own network running at home with a fully working server that is my DHCP & DNS server but for the first time in history I have just sign up for 18 month and got a bloody router that has no function in the GUI settings pages to turn OFF the DHCP server. So for now I will have to wait for 18 months before I can change ISP. thanks vodafone tech team for missing this one. If there is anyone out there that can offer me a firmware update to give me the function to turn OFF DHCP then please post it.

Ha. You will be lucky. Their reasoning is that they can't support 3rd party routers. It seems that they can't even support their own router so why would anyone expect them to support someone elses.... What with its crippled functionality, and that it is barely fit for purpose. Crippling your home network due to it not working as it should and requiring daily restarts for my own devices to communicate is very poor. And more to the point a 3rd party router would work as expected so it wouldn't need any support anyway.

No wonder that are ranked so poor with their consumer customer support. Things like this won't make them get ranked any better.

It sounds like I got lucky then.  "proof" attached 🙂

The password looks like a randomly generated one.

There must be a way to leave them early with no charges due to the router being useless? Anyone tried?

Lol doubt it tbh Lemaru.

adrianball; Agreed. To be honest I just think of my Vodafone Connect router as a BT Openreach modem and plug my good router alone in to the Vodafone connect, disable wifi on it and disable Secure DNS. Disabling secure DNS allows me to set the WAN DNS on my good router and it actually work.

The only downside to this is that Vodafone block port 443 inbound for their mobile app meaning I can never have an SSL HTTPS webserver running just HTTP.

Setting my good router as the DMZ means my VPN, Voip Server and RDP all work fine.

@arcticicecool So you end up with double NAT with this arrangement?

Yep you got lucky adrianball, well done, and this proves they can give you the details if you're persistent.

Is it still possible to get the XML that contains the username? Or have they locked this down? I can no longer find the link to get it

@ywu:

Has no effect on anything at all. I don't bother with the Vodafone Connect, only to turn off wifi, secure DNS and set my router to the DMZ.

Then connect the Vodafone Connect to my WAN port in my router, set to DHCP.

My vodafone connect has the IP of: 192.168.1.1
My routers WAN IP is 192.168.1.1
My LAN IP range is 172.xxx.xxx.xxx

@Lemaru: what XML is that?

@arcticicecool - that does look like you have double NAT as you have two private address ranges. Not sure whether that has any effect on performance, maybe some issues with port forwarding? Maybe just technically inelegant.

Yeah, no performance difference at all - no effect on Xbox or PS online or anything.

Setting my router as the DMZ in Vodafone Connect means all traffic goes to the router anyway, so no double-port forwarding.

But I understand what you are saying, yes it is double NAT but in theory you have no ideas how much that happens outside of your home on the way to your ISP and over the net.

At least my home LAN has no limitations imposed by using the Vodafone connect, my media streams great, DLNA works perfect; streaming has no issues and everything runs fine.

I am achieving the same speedtest results on end computers / laptops as the Vodafone Connect displays as its sync rate.
