Vodafone have marked my credit file with a late payment

I have been a vodafone customer for many years.  I paid my bill about 6 days after the due date 2 months ago and I have had my experian credit file marked with a late payment.  Surely that can't be right.  What do I do to get this removed/altered as I know I've paid later than this and this hasn't happened before.  Not even a month late but marked to say a month late? One dissatisfied customer here.

You have to ask yourself if you paid the bill late or on the due date.  Although only six days late, the payment was still overdue.  As you have mentioned, this was not the first time you paid late, Vodafone may have overlooked a late payment for the first time.

 

The best way to avoid this happening in the future is to set up a direct debit arrangement, that way there is no worry of making the payment on time.  

But it wasn't a month late was it? So not fair to say I paid a month late on my credit file.

A suggestion in future if you know that your bill is going to be paid late is to contact Vodafone to inform them.

 

This way they can prepare for your payment to be late so you don't fall into collections, providing you make the payment by the date you say you will.

 

If you've paid late in the past, there may also be an overdue balance from a previous bill carried over. Just because you paid up doesn't mean that there wasn't a balance over 30 days old.

 

Have a look online at your bills and check if you had any balances carried forward. If so, this would explain it.

 

If not, just contact Vodafone to double check.

Hi,

This information is correct. The way the numbering system works on your credit score is you get a '0' when your bill is paid on time. A '1' if you're up to one month late paying (which you were), a '2' if you're up to two months late paying. 

 

So the numbers are up to.... which makes sense. If you could pay everything 28 days later than you should yet still retain a perfect credit score as you're still under a month then everyone would do it.
