I can imagine that this issue must be quite frustrating, I'm confident it can be resolved though

Error 619 most commonly means that the APN is incorrect. Which version of the pre-pay modem are you using? If it's the Rev 2 then the APN will need to be changed to ppbundle.internet, with web and web as the username and password respectively.
It also may be worth downloading the latest supported version of VMC (Vodafone Mobile Connect), this can be found at the following link:
VMC 9.4.6.
