What Number?

Yesterday I used my Vodafone mobile broadband modem for the first time since I installed Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 on my laptop, and the Kaspersky
"Anti-Dialer" prevented it from dialling.

I would like to find out the number the modem uses and enter it as a trusted number in Kaspersky, but I can't find the number.

Kaspersky reveals this 'helpful' information, apparently received from the Vodafone software: *99****15#, and I can't find the number modem settings either.

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find the answer by searching this forum...

*99***15# is probably the number you're after. 3G (and GPRS) modems/phones connect to APNs rather than calling numbers, but internally the *99 command is what the modem dials to make the connection (the number at the end is the identity of the APN to use in the modems APN list).

I have the same problem.
So what number do I have to enter in the Kaspersky anti-dialer exceptions box?
What are the stars within the number dialed?
Or do I physically type the above number including stars.

Hi Thanks for that,That number did not work but I think I read elsewhere on the net that the number is *99***1 which has worked.
Is there any downside in using this number eg. I wont get charged some expensive rate(I presume this will come out of my 500mb allowance)
And can you advise how many MBs on average a standard web banking page will use via my laptop using my phone as a modem?

I have used different dailing numbers and I'm not sure what difference it makes but it hasn't made a diffrence to my billing. I first used a E220 modem and *99***16# & *99***1# where the only two numbers that would work. Since I changed to a USB stick modem *99***1# & *99***3# & *99# are the only ones that work. One strange thing I noticed is that Windows live messenger Video chat only works when dailling *99***3# ?? Maybe a member of Vodafone staff could explain this??

I'm sure somebody will be able to clear this up for you if they know.

Don't worry though, it makes no difference to the way you are billed :)

The service numbers (codes) have nothing to do with specific handsets... and everything to do with 3GPP standards.

The GSM 3GPP standards define the "99" service code in a couple of standards. The original documents for GPRS (Phase 1, 2, R96-R98 networks) are:

1) GSM 02.30, Man Machine Interface: Annex C Bearer Service code for GPRS services = 99.
2) GSM 07.07 AT command set for GSM: sec 10.2.1.1 Request GPRS Service code = 99.

which for 3G (R99, Rel4-Rel8 Networks) have now been replaced by:

3) 3GPP TS 22.030 Man-Machine Interface (MMI) of the User Equipment (UE) http://ftp.3gpp.org/Specs/html-info/22030.htm
4) 3GPP TS 27.007 AT command set for User Equipment (UE) http://www.3gpp.org/ftp/specs/html-info/27007.htm
