Wifi calling on SIM-only contract

I am giving my iPhone 6 to my wife and I hoped she would be able to use wifi calling.  However today Vodafone support told me she is not allowed to, because she has a SIM-only contract: wifi calling is only enabled when we buy a phone from Vodafone.

We have no intention of buying another phone just to get this capability - it would be better to move her to EE where wifi calling is well established and easily available.

However there is some confusion elsewhere on this forum, with some users saying they persuaded 191 to enable the phone and others not.  What's the latest position please?

Hi @SP0

WiFi calling is available on SIM only tariffs, but you need to be on a Red Plan.  Unlike Samsung devices, an iphone does not need to be purchased direct from Vodafone.

Please see below.

WiFi calling

OK so this is v confusing.

How do I determine whether she has a Red contract? There is no mention on the statement, just "12mth SIMO 600min UltdSMS 500MB CTR8".

Do you think I need to move her to a new contract?

Hi @SP0

The contract would probably be eligible for upgrade to a new Red SIM only. If you check the account online or the My Vodafone application, you will be able to see the upgrade and termination date.

Please see below.

SIM only tariffs

Vodafone have very good SIM only tariffs at the moment with inclusive roaming.  Give Vodafone a call, they are there to help.

Me and my partner have SIM only contracts and can get wifi calling on our iPhone 6S bought from Apple. However, I don't think wifi calling is available in the iPhone 6, only the 6S/6S plus and later.
