I don't understand how Vodafone can't give a rough idea when a phone will be ready.

So a phone is out of stock. You must have some idea when you get more.

I would think the stocking levels change quite fast online and as such the agents will only have so much information to go by. 

Also depending on how newly released the handset is. 

This is one of the reasons I suggest upgrading or taking out a new contract out in a Vodafone store if local and convenient. Or buy the phone in store.
