Hi there
It sounds to me like the phone is faulty and will need to be sent back for repair. The quickest way of getting a new SIM card is to pop into a Vodafone Store. They will provide you with a new SIM and activate it for you. Alternatively, you can call 191 and they will arrange for one to be sent to you.
