How do i get around my handset being locked as ive forgotten my passcode?

If you've forgotten your passcode, then you have lost all of your data unless you've backed up to iTunes or iCloud. You need to do a software recovery with iTunes to restore your phone. You can do this by holding both main buttons whilst connect to iTunes. Then iTunes will prompt you to proceed with a software restore. Sorry about your data.

Forgot iPhone passcode is annoying. But there are ways to unlock iPhone passcode.

If you’ve synced your iPhone with iTunes, you can restore your iPhone;
If you’ve never synced your iPhone with iTunes, you need to erase iPhone;
Use Find My iPhone is also ok.
