If your iPhone was supplied by Vodafone UK then it'll be locked to their network. 

To use another networks sim card in it you'll first need to unlock it. 

As long as you meet the criteria then fill out the unlock form and Vodafone will request the unlock from Apple. Apple then can take a further 20-30 days to complete the unlocking. Inserting a non Vodafone sim which is active will complete the unlock on an iPhone 6. You can hook up to iTunes if you wish to help complete the unlock if you wish. The iPhone does not unlock via a code. 

If instead decide to use your Vodafone UK sim card abroad you'll need to make sure no abroad bars are activated in your myvodafone.
