We renewed our broadband recently, and got 'upgraded' from Superfast 2 to Fibre 2. Seems like the same thing to me but different name. Anyway, the new package is activated on the 26th but I've noticed the new router I've been sent is a THG3000 and my existing Vodafone router is a THG3000g. Is the router I already have the most recent, and have I been sent an old one? Do I need to swap them over or should I leave the existing one in place and simply reboot it on activation day?
Any help would be much appreciated.

@Privateofcourse This was being discussed earlier today and in that thread the old/current router is being left in place. Presuming that you have no need to change and that VF do not suddenly disconnect the current router there doesn't seem to be a preference.

Hello
Thanks for replying. Strange isn't it. I originally had my first router replaced as it had problems, don't k ow what version it was, and was sent the current 3000g one... years ago now. So a bit hesitant to switch to the 3000 if it is basically the same as the original problematic one this 3000g replaced.
I appreciate your help. I hope someone has something more definitive though....so whether to switch to the new non g version or not. Without anything definitive I'm instinctively inclined to stick with what I have already to be honest...and see what happens.

Sticking with the one you have seems sensible, but if it stops working, or the VoIP telephone connection doesn't work swap to the new one.

Really strange to have 2 people with THG3000g's on the same day, I didn't think there were many out there.
Unless Vodafone are deliberately trying to remove all the THG3000g's but I can't think why that may be.

Just updating this, as I received an email from Vodafone (standard notification) about the procedure, and contrary to all previous information received, and the fact they sent a new router out, the email states:
It's almost here - your new Vodafone Broadband service is due to go live on 26/May/2023
Step 1: Leave your existing router plugged in and connected to your Openreach master socket
So, given it's there in black and white in an email that is exactly what I'll do. I'll just stick the recently received one in the loft I suppose...with all the other forgotten about and redundant stuff.

Don't stick up there just yet, Vodafone, especially in standard notifications, aren't always right. I'd give it a week or so just in case you do need to use the new one.

Especially, if you are being moved to digital voice (VoIP), make sure that works on the current router.

Yes, indeed, that sounds like very sensible advice to me. Thankyou.

Just like to provide an update:
@Jayach you were right on the money with your advice to keep the other router at hand: I would have been climbing about in the loft this morning otherwise.
First, activation did not go through yesterday (was told by phone support it got 'stuck' whatever that means) and was told they'd try again... and today it was activated. I received messages telling me the Digital Voice service was now active too....BUT the phone light on my modem was not lit up and the line wasn't working.
I decided to do a webchat rather than phone. The person I chatted to was very helpful, and thorough and checked the serial of the router I was currently using and also the one I had received recently but wasn't using and said the services were actually attached to the new router I was sent. The person asked me to switch the routers, which I did, and within a minute after the router had booted and connected the phone light was white and line was live. All sorted.
So, I now have to set up the router again (deep joy) and as to whether the router is a THG3000 or THG3000g is now of little importance because everything is working and that's all that matters. On with the day!
Thanks for your input.
