New FTTP Not Activated yet :/

Should probably start by saying I am a brand new provision, Openreach only recently installed the fibre network around here.

They turned up today and installed the ONT and all was finished around 1130am, right from the go I have a Solid Power Light and Solid PON light but the LAN light is off. So of course the router is showing no internet with a flashing red light. I’ve factory reset it under the guidance from the offshore and power cycled the ONT a bunch of times, no change.

They then said it can’t take up until midnight so I need to wait anyway, just curious as to why?

Also judging by some of the other folks on here who still haven’t been activated some days later it’s a worry. I’d have expected it to be pretty soon after Openreach confirm they’ve done the work?

Is this normal because I just have this niggle that in 2 hrs time nothing will have changed?

The lan led being off shows either a bad ethernet cable or incorrect wiring. Make sure the ONT is securely connected to the router's WAN port, then try with another cable.

Yeah I did wonder this but I’ve swapped the cable for a known good one and it 100% is in the WAN port.

Im actually an IT Infra Admin so I know my way around and it did seem odd the LAN light was off but if there’s no connected at the other end of the fibre to an open port this could mean the interface wouldn’t establish and show as up.

Vodafone said my order was still open and I can’t access my Vodafone because they said it’s not active yet, so I kinda think maybe I do need to wait it out but you’re right, LAN not being lit is odd as you would be forgiven for think at least the two interfaces LAN -> WAN would establish and light up but indeed there maybe no PPPOE established until activation.

The led shows a physical electrical connection, not the status of a PPPoE session.

somethings not right then 😕

I’ll test a spare router I have, maybe it’s a faulty ONT.

Just plug a laptop into the ONT.

Yeah I’m going to do some testing with a few things. This morning.

Interestingly I’ve got an email from around 0417 which says they are sorry I’ve not been activated yet and there will be compensation.

i wonder if this is because they can’t see past the LAN port, I’m not sure their tech support would even understand after I spoke to them yesterday about the port, just kept telling me to factory reset the router over and over…

"I’m not sure their tech support would even understand after I spoke to them yesterday about the port"

They don't. The support call centre is based in Egypt, and all they do is read through the script on a screen. It's only if you need a level 3 tech that you actually get to speak to someone in the uk.

Firstly thanks for the quick replies.

I’ve been told I’m getting £5 a day now…

So after hooking up a laptop there is still no light either on the laptop LAN or the ONT LAN. Leaving the two connecting and power cycling the ONT there is indeed activity on both laptop LAN and ONT LAN during the ONT booting but as soon as the PON goes solid there is no further LAN activity and it goes dead at both ends.
