New FTTP Not Activated yet :/

Should probably start by saying I am a brand new provision, Openreach only recently installed the fibre network around here.

They turned up today and installed the ONT and all was finished around 1130am, right from the go I have a Solid Power Light and Solid PON light but the LAN light is off. So of course the router is showing no internet with a flashing red light. I’ve factory reset it under the guidance from the offshore and power cycled the ONT a bunch of times, no change.

They then said it can’t take up until midnight so I need to wait anyway, just curious as to why?

Also judging by some of the other folks on here who still haven’t been activated some days later it’s a worry. I’d have expected it to be pretty soon after Openreach confirm they’ve done the work?

Is this normal because I just have this niggle that in 2 hrs time nothing will have changed?

Same issue for me currently going into day 8 of no internet

Oh man I’m so sorry to hear that. Do you have alternate connection?

Just 5g but having a house full of smart switches bulbs and tvs with gaming pcs and consoles. It’s a pain to use across my house

Oh man I’m sorry to hear that, my family would be going crazy without the internet, whole house is smart these days.

I anticipated issues so I’ve left my virgin media cable active so as far as the family are concerned nothing is different. If I was already having copper broadband I’d be without now and it’ll would be so bad.

I went with Vodafone because they are the cheapest but I was aware the support is poor and all offshore (mostly). But openreach largely look after these connections so once it’s live it should be good! Some pain is clearly occurring on the way though.

Some more info then.

I spoke to Vodafone who told me that Openreach have said there is a light issue preventing my order from going live or completing. Slightly odd because the Openreach Engineers who did the work said there was light and the solid PON light seems to suggest I am connected and authenticated with the exchange, well the ONT is. The engineers yesterday said that they did a line test and that it reported: EMS CP TAG. I have no idea where it means but they said basically it means that the rest of the activation and route needs to be done on the phone, no physical work is required to be done but there is now some setup. Given that I am the first to get FTTP in my post code I wasnt surprised there would be an issue, thank goodness I didnt cancel or put on notice Virgin Media.

Vodafone assured me that a specialist Openreach engineer will be looking at it and trying to resolved within the next 5 working days and to expect an update on the 25th of December, yeah right....Christmas day.

Dont think theres anything I can do now, im not being charged and compensation is being added to my account. Guess I just got to wait.

Just did a little more probing into it.

If I boot the ONT up without the fibre plugged in I get a solid LAN light, of course I get a red LOS light but the LAN will stay there and my laptop will try to send packets to it, I just get told its an unidentified network....as soon as I plug the Fibre back in and it goes solid the LAN light goes off. So weird...

Openreach called me today to report that there is a 'Light Issue', so ive heard it from the horses mouth now. This could be down to a faulty splice somewhere or piece of equipment, in any case should be resolved within 5 working days. The LAN light going off once the Fibre is plugged in is odd but most likely linked to the light being too strong or weak, Openreach Service Desk couldnt really speculate but it should be fixed soon.

Ill post back in here once I know.

Today is the 2nd working, friday tomorrow and then christmas, I doubt itll be online till the new year to be honest

Still no service or any update from Openreach as to a fix to the line.....up to nearly 90 quid of compensation now. Vodafone are getting nothing from Openreach on this apart from wait 5 more days.....
