Can't get internet working with TP-Link AC1600

Hello

I thought it should have been pretty straight forward to get my new Vodafone connection working with the TP-Link router instead of the default Vodafone model, and I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.

I have taken the ethernet that goes into the WAN port of the Vodafone router, and put it into the WAN port of the TP-Link. When I go to the set up on TP-Link, I pick "other" ISP (since Vodafone isn't on the list), enable WLAN and enter 911 (as provided by Vodafone), and the user and pass provided by Vodafone. But every time I get the following error "Internet not connected. Please check if your phone cable is properly connected."

Does any one have any ideas as to how I can get it working?

Which actual router are you using, it sounds from the error that it is a DSL model. (it should still work but may need slightly different settings.)

Assuming you are on FTTP as you mention the WAN port, and is it definitely Cityfire?

Thanks for your reply. It's the Archer VR600 which is meant to be VDSL and ADSL. I checked the reviews and various people said it worked fine with Vodafone?

How can I find out if I am on FTTP?

Username is a trip hazard. Vodafone just give you the number and you need to fill in the blanks.

If the cable driving your Vodafone router (presumably the THG3000) is in the green WAN port you are on FTTP. if you were on FTTC you would be using the be using the red internet port.

Yes FTTP then!

Presumably you have the version 2.

You really didn't want a DSL router then, you would be better off with just a router.

This is for a different ISP, but this guide may help to set it in Wireless router mode.

Thank you that got it working! I already had this device from my previous place, glad it still works :Smiling:
