GeforceNow bandwidth worse on FFTP than it was on FFTC

After signing up for GeforceNow 3080 last year I was disappointed to find that my existing FFTC (copper wire) Vodafone Broadband always had higher than acceptable "Packet Loss" resulting in the message that "Streaming over your network is not recommended". The bandwidth was always OK at over 50mbps.

I had contacted Vodafone support about this but the issue was never resolved.

When my contract was coming to an end I contacted Vodafone about trying somewhere else but they talked me into an upgrade to Full Fibre at a lower price than I was already paying with no setup fees so I accepted the new service without hesitation.

Two weeks ago on 13/6 an Openreach engineer arrived and installed the fibre, it didn't work that day. I contacted Support who told me it was OK to leave the old FFTC cable along with the new WAN cable plugged in so that we would still have internet and that the router would switch over when the Fibre was activated.

I don't think that was true because after still having no Fibre 4 days later I unplugged the FFTC cable and the Fibre came on.

The problem now is that having "UPGRADED"??? to Full Fibre I am only get between 12 and 29 mbps on GeforceNow and the Packet Loss fluctuates between 0 and 20 depending on the mbps. I have spent hours on the phone to the Full Fibre support team but the issue is unresolved.

I wish I had looked here before "Upgrading"

Well it's been a while. I checked GFN again today and found it is working to full capacity  with >50 Mbps, zero packet loss and a latency of around 10 to 15 ms. There can be no other reason for this other than that something has been changed or sorted out within the VF (Openreach) network to my home. Could it be that City Fibre is now available at my address?

This is the first time I've seen the improvement so it could all be crap again tomorrow. I won't upgrade my GFN subscription just yet.

At the moment on BT broadband, we're using Xbox cloud gaming - it's mostly stable, but every now and then it'll stumble - we've a year of this for free...  Tried Amazon Luna, but that was not too good.  GeeForce Now at the moment is by far the best of the bunch - almost as good as Stadia used to be!

The thing is I can monitor the connection - and when Xbox Cloud stumbles, it's usually Xbox Cloud that is stumbling and not the network connection!

For me there was definitely some kind of throttling or bad routing on the connection to the GFN servers that has now been fixed or lifted.

I would only get between 8 and 15 Mbps and the Packet Loss would get worse with the higher speeds, sometimes up to 25% or more. Totally unusable which was really annoying as I had paid something like £90 for 6 months of the high tier as was the only option at that time.

It seems OK again today, although it thinks I'm using a VPN

@Graydog7  As you are getting such a variety of speeds it may be worth doing a route test during both the good and the bad days.

Thanks but it's never been "varied" it was always bad on GFN ( GeforceNow) but now it isn't.

Something has changed within the network infrastructure between me and the GFN  (Auto) EU West server. Even the  EU Southwest and EU Northwest show > 50Mbps and 0 Packet loss although the latency is a little higher on those (19 & 34ms). This is like a whole new network and not just a tweaked setting.

It's worth mentioning again that other than (the issue I used to have?) with GFN my broadband is just fine

@Graydog7  Indeed, when GFN is poor do a route test to the GFN server. If the route test shows nothing than it may indicate that GFN is overloaded or the local GFN software is at fault.

@Jayach

Also, the first message here was After upgrading to FFTP the second was before the upgrade. There has always been an issue with GeforceNow, it's just got worse since upgrading to Full Fibre FFTP

I have the same issue. Both, using broadband or Vodafone mobile data. Other providers works fine with GFN. Vodafone Customer Service is useless so in October I'm switching elsewhere. Regards.

Sorry to hear that. The issue I had was never explained and support were unable to help over a period of months and many, many interactions with them. The problem disappeared all by itself when City Fibre came to my area. Probably a coincidence but....... Who knows?
