I have previously had BT FTTP and I used it successfully with my Nest Wifi setup without the BT router, connected the Nest Router to the ONT directly and entering the PPPoE details into the Nest Wifi settings.
This doesn't appear to work with Vodafone, I've read a ton of posts here and other posts on google support forums and superuser.com but I can't get the Nest Wifi Router to connect.
I have my PPPoE details from the VF broadband support as suggested in other posts.
These don't work directly in the Nest Wifi as it doesn't support VLAN ID 101 which I believe is required (I'm in an openreach area)?
I have a little managed switch, which various posts suggest can be used to work around the tagging.
It's a TP Link SG105E 5 port switch.

I have the ONT plugged into port 1 on the switch and the Nest Wifi WAN port connected to port 2 on the switch.
I'm using the credentials given to me by VF broadband support
Account name: dsl<10 numbers>@broadband.vodafone.co.uk
Password: <8 char password>
When it tries to connect it seems to just timeout, like it doesn't get a response from the PPPoE server. Then say the WAN credentials are incorrect.
I have tried connected my Mac and PCs directly to port 2 on the switch and setting up a PPPoE connection and the same happens. I get errors with "Cannot find PPPoE server".
I've sunk hours into trying to make this work but don't seem to be getting any closer.
For the moment I have the Nest Wifi connected behind the VF router but obviously that comes with the double NAT problem.
Any one out there successfully used the Nest Wifi without the VF router with a SG105E or similar switch?

If you're on FTTP then VLAN isn't used for openreach connections. If you still can't get it working contact vodafone again and check your PPPoE login details.
PPPoE login username is in the format dslXXXXXXXXX@broadband.vodafone.co.uk

I forgot to mention I spoke to TP link who said
"No it cannot do it because its not a managed switch." Which seems to contradict posts on here, reddit and superuser.com which suggest the SG105E should do this.

Interesting, they gave me a whole bunch of config.
I have been back to them twice to check username & password, they first time they gave it me without the "@"
The last time, they copied them into the chat, presumable from their system?
Username = dslXXXXXXXXXX@broadband.vodafone.co.uk
Password = XXXXXXXX
VLAN = 101 , ( For Gigafast vlan 911)
VPI input = 0
VCI input = 38
Set Encapsulation/protocol = PPPoA or PPP over ATM
Set Framing/multiplexing = Type in: VC-based or VC-MUX (may have a name of PPPoa VC-MUX in some routers)
Set Modulation = Choose Multimode or Auto Specific modes will be either G.dmt/ITU G992.1 (ADSL1) or ITU G992.5 (ADSL2+)
Set Security/Authentication type = Choose CHAP
Set idle timeout = Set as No or 0
Set MTU size = Type in 1492
Set IP address= Obtain automatically from ISP
Set default gateway= Obtain automatically from ISP

Most of that is for DSL connections - totally irrelevant. If you've changed these settings you'll need to reset the nest, then just add the pppoe username and password - that's it.

Been onto them again this morning and low and behold, the username was wrong.
Popped it into the nest and boom, no vlan wrangling required.
Unbelievable.
Why they don't just make this available in the account dashboard.

I've not used a Nest, but the following may help.
Firstly you shouldn't have the switch between the ONT and the router, should still work, but you wouldn't be able to use the other ports. Connect directly to the ONT.
Secondly, don't set a VLAN, just leave it blank, the ONT will take care of that.
Thirdly, confirm Vodafone have given you the correct PPPoE credentials, they are frequently wrong, confusing similar looking characters

The username they gave me was wrong :facepalm:
No vlan tagging fiddling required, works straight out the box without the switch.
