High Latency at Peak Times

jibilah
4: Newbie

I have been having some regular issues in the evening at peak times for approximately 2 weeks, with my Gigafast 500mb service (using the Vodafone Supplied Router).

The issue: high ping fluctations, and packet loss, backed up by running Ping tests in command prompt.

It seems to be happening predominantly in the evenings from around 7pm to around 10:30pm.

I have a Thinkbroadband Monitor on the go, and will post once more data is shown.

Before reaching this point I have done the following:

1. Resarted Router

2. Switched off WiFi, and disconnected all bar a single PC to run Ping command

3. Tried another Ethernet connected machine to run Ping command: same results.

Is anyone experiencing the same issues?

Backstory:

I mainly play games and chat to friends on Discord. I began noticing high latency fluctuations around 2 weeks ago, and friends on the Discord server began to mention I was lagging/breaking up when I was talking.
It has now gotten pretty bad where I am getting kicked out of game servers due to the quality of the connection.

I spent over an 1 hour 15 minutes getting through to second line...

...and I have an update but it's not what we want to hear.

It's now gone 'above' Third Line - they haven't necessarily said what the issue is (think they're purposely being vague), but it sounds as if some equipment isn't quite suitable for its job, and they have only found out once 'enough' people have been connected to it.

The worst of it, is they don't have a date/time estimate of when they expect it to be resolved.

As it's not a full outage, they cannot offer me an alternative (e.g. a dongle), so essentially I'm stuck with it, until it's resolved, if  it ever gets resolved!

All in all, very disappointed considering it's their Gigafast service!

Further update.

It seems to be some inadequate equipment that Vodafone connects to, that I understand is managed by CityFibre. There are seemingly many conversations happening between Vodafone and CityFibre, but the fact there is no resolution date (Vodafone are very non committal of even estimating how long it may take, or may not even get resolved), suggests to me that they're withholding the authorisation of the resolution (monetary or otherwise).

I am in an area where the FTTP was first laid and available,  therefore they may have reached the tipping point in capacity.

Fortunately I am out of contract, so I will see where we're at in a few days and make the decision to leave.

Advertising a gigabit service, but seemingly don't have the equipment to handle it...

just to keep this post alive,

i am still experiencing this issue with no end in sight....

again issue is like clock work between 20:30 and 10:30 every night.

have you had any further update to your call ?

Unfortunately, Vodafone have not given me any update since I chased the issue up last Thursday.

I am however still experiencing the issue.

As mentioned, I am highly concerned that Vodafone seemingly know what the issue is, but are not committing to a resolution date.

I gave Vodafone an example of where I am at with the issue: I need to decide how long I am willing to wait for a resolution e.g. 2 weeks. I was met with 'I don't think it will be sorted by then, and we can't say how long it will take', which (for how I interpreted the conversation) that it will not be sorted (anytime soon).

This is all very worrying: offering a Gigabit (up to) service, but not being able to handle the traffic.

@gtx450  have you raised an issue with Vodafone also?
They have mentioned many people have reported the same issue, so I'm hoping more people are phoning in and complaining.
On a separate note, I have raised a complaint about this to Vodafone - but still no response!
