I used to get 5ms ping to London (from Coventry), now I am being auto connected to Edinburugh and I get 15 ping to there, when I try to speedtest to London or even right next to me in Leicester I am getting pings above 22...I called in and they just said "they added new servers and there's nothing much we can do"...

any help?

This morning's update.

This problem started out just being weird. Then it got daft. This morning it got STUPID!

Overnight my IP was changed. I didn't notice how quiet my phone had got but it was Saturday night, time for friends and family right?

So I went to do my daily speedtest and guess what? I'm in Ghana today.

Makes a change from scotland eh?

So I thought I may as well run a speedtest since I'm there and

Time for more coffee.

Hmmmmm! What about testing to Manchester?

I'm not making this up!

I decided to get this post together and (can you guess?)

Today it's just got.............................. ridiculous. Maybe I should just stop complaining about scottish IPs.

Just noticed my IP changed between testing and trying to access the forums. What's that about??

@Ripshod I'm sorry if you were misadvised, however we're able to add a static IP free of charge and you don't need to be a business customer. If you haven't already, please pop our Social Media team a message here and a member of the team will be able to get this added for you 🙂

@Beth My experience of your social media channels leaves a lot to be desired. I can start a convo then have to wait a day or two for a reply.

I've had a static IP before now - it geolocated to scotland and I was locked to the Edinburgh gateway. Now if I can be promised a local static IP that connects me to the Leeds gateway or even Manchester I'd be willing to put all those hours of waiting in, and repeatedly doing tests that have no relevance. This has been to 2nd and 3rd line support and apparently nothing can be done.

I work so I'm out of the house most of the week, in a job where interruptions are totally undesired.

@Ripshod If you're happy to let me know once you've done this here and include your username in your chat with us, I can pick this up myself for you through Social Media as I work both platforms 🙂

@Beth

@Ripshod wants a guarantee on what gateway server (they) will get. A static IP will not give (them) that.

I wonder if we should all state our pronouns on here. I really wouldn't want to miss-gender someone.

Static IP ordered though the gateway can't be guaranteed - we'll see what happens. To be honest anything (even Edinburgh) is better than waking up to newsfeeds from Ghana.

@Beth if this works out you could do the same for @Anonymous ?

@Jayach even if I was to give you my christian name you'd be none the wiser. Besides, a little mystery is good.

@Ripshod @Anonymous Not a problem! I'm on annual leave between Monday and Sunday next week so I may be unavailable personally, but another member of the team can get this set up with you 🙂

@Beth

Have a great time, I suspect this thread will still be active when you return. 😉

Hold on, can we work out the distances here?  Now I know I can't beat Ghana with the IP I had that thought I was in ROI, but is it further than the Hyderabad IP I had once.

*I was only crying with laughter as it's not hard to fix.  In fact the ROI IP had advantages - access to all UK streaming plus ROI streaming!

FYI: On VDSL, connected to Vodafone (AS1273) Manchester Metroplex (AS5378) Virtualised BGP with multiple entries.  BGP, gateway, and virtual socket are all distinct.
