Ping/Latency way higher Gigafast 900

I used to get 5ms ping to London (from Coventry), now I am being auto connected to Edinburugh and I get 15 ping to there, when I try to speedtest to London or even right next to me in Leicester I am getting pings above 22...I called in and they just said "they added new servers and there's nothing much we can do"...

any help?

All the switches introduce a lot of Latency - buffering. A packet can't be retransmitted until the whole packet has been received. Plus a lot of vodafone's infrastructure came from cable & wireless, so a lot of old tech in the system too.

Overselling also plays a large part.

Also when I say my latency is stable at 3-4ms, I don't mention the 1-2ms jitter that I have.

Nothing compared to what some of you are suffering from, but still worth mentioning as it's not a perfect connection either. I don't think anyone has one at VF.

I wouldn't worry about jitter tight now. If your ping was say 12ms 1-2ms jitter wouldn't stand out so much. With the randomness in the way our packets are handled and the routes they take the jitter will always be there. Nature of electrical signals.

The purity of the clock signal your router's processor uses means jitter will always exist - but that's a whole 'nother story.

Buffering is something that must take place for you to watch a streamed video. Perhaps you mean slow buffering. With low to moderate latency and sufficient bandwidth you shouldn't get any slow buffering from a decent media server.

Not 1-2ms of jitter though. I would expect below 0.5 at least, I know several ISP's that are able to do handle traffic no issues with about ~0.1ms jitter. It's not an electrical issue, it's an electrical issue at VF. - I'm using my own Router.

If you look at BT FTTP they've got considerably lower jitter, 1-2ms jitter isn't and shouldn't be a norm, although most typical users probably won't notice this thing.

Going slightly offtopic here, but seems like no one at VF really cares anyway besides sending the occasional default message in here.

Totally agree even the replies from socials are a fob off. Hopefully my complaint gets things sorted so I can get out of this, I got better pings on VM than I have had for the past four months on here

bump?

No change here

Zero feedback from Vodafone complaint. Why does this not surprise me??? Excessive ping 16ms to 20ms on average still when I used to have 5ms

Just got a call back from the complaints team, it was an African woman screaming hullo sir hullo, we cannot fix broadband problem you need to call weefi team for the broadband dongle. Then she hung up..

I give up with this. l will be leaving as soon as my contract expires.
