Ping/Latency way higher Gigafast 900

I used to get 5ms ping to London (from Coventry), now I am being auto connected to Edinburugh and I get 15 ping to there, when I try to speedtest to London or even right next to me in Leicester I am getting pings above 22...I called in and they just said "they added new servers and there's nothing much we can do"...

any help?

The other thing that could be creating high local pings would be if there is a Virtual Network Device intercepting packets on the local machine.  *DON'T PANIC*!  Such virtual devices are often used legitimately to sniff packets or if you are using a VPN.

Also if you are using a service for commercial purposes that requires a certain level of service then you really shouldn't be assuming that such a level of service comes as standard, and should be using a package that has a stated "Service Level Agreement".

We did a lot of testing and the AX92u uses a specific broadcom SoC that affords it lower latency. WiFi6 only adds on 1ms. Bufferbloat loads add 10ms - 20ms. We did test this against an AX86u and the results are significantly better on the AX92u

I'm glad we did our own research as people on SBB forums recommend the AX86u as the go to and best Asus router. It isn't.

WiFi 6 shouldn't be adding on any additional latency compared to Wifi 5 and earlier.  Realistically WiFi 6 should be faster by nano seconds in most instances, so unless you've highly sensitive test equipment it'd be hard to tell!

That actually makes no sense. How on earth can Wi-Fi take 2ms longer on Wi-Fi 5 than 6?

Sorry, I'm confused!  Are your connections reduced by 2ms or increased by 1ms using WiFi6?

*QoS will always add to the absolute minimum because it means there is processing to be done!  You shouldn't be using QoS with FTTP - it shouldn't be necessary!

RT-AZ92U no updates? It's odd that they are still selling it and the last firmware (388) was released in Nov 2022. I am confused now.

So far as I can see there are still Gnuton releases (inc 388), but certainly, on the Asus UK support site the most recent official firmware is from 22 January 2022.

Ah, perhaps they are "doing a Samsung", e.g. forgetting all about the device as soon as it has been sold in sufficient numbers. I had a TV from them that went EOL before the 2 year guarantee expired.

Hi, I'm not on gigafast, (an Openreach 500mb/s connection) but I seem to be stuck with being allocated Edinburgh as my gateway. I've tried power cycling the router and ONT to no avail. Frustrating as I'm in the south-west Midlands!

Pings to bbc.co.uk and Google are in the mid/late-twenties (wired). Fortunately with no noticable packet loss.

After reading this forum and the problems other people have had, is it worth getting involved with Vodafone support? Will it do any good? I'm stuck with this contract for over the next 12 months or so which is a pain.
