Hi,
I'm currently a Virgin Media customer and have been for many years as it was the only high speed option available. I finally have access to FTTP in my area now so I am likely to switch over during April/May when my contract comes to an end. Like many users I use my own setup at home (pfsense router on dedicated hardware) and run my virgin media device in pass through 'modem only' mode. I'd like to continue in that way but I believe this mode of operation is not supported by the vodafone devices such as THG3000. However after some reading I believe it will be possible to connect from the ONT directly to my PFSense router. As long as the router can support PPPoE and I have the appropriate VLAN and credentials set on my PFSense WAN port I should be good to go and won't need to use the supplied hardware at all. I appreciate this means I won't benefit from the digital land line but to be honest we've not had one for 10 years and don't miss it so it's no issue. Can someone confirm the above is likely still to work. I got the information from the following website.

Any feedback appreciated.

I had VM for many years for the same reasons as you, I moved over from VM last year and I can confirm that you will be able to use your own hardware. 👍

There are a load of "earn money quick" links on that URL, perhaps it would be better to look in this forum. Also, because of my security, not all of the page is shown - so I don't feel too comfortable with that link.

Ok,
Well for simplicity here's the diagram of how things would be connected.
It's all pretty straightforward stuff. Just really need to know that VF are still ok handing out the PPPoE creds once you're a customer (which I believe is done over live chat).
If someone who has already done this can confirm that would be great.
thanks for your input.

thanks for confirming Paul. Hopefully similar offers to the ones I'm seeing now will still be available come April... fingers crossed.

Here are two conversations to get the ball rolling and using the search finds 33 instances of "pfsence" being in a discussion.

When you do swap over, plan to have an overlap between Virgin and the new supplier, things don't always go too smoothly with the FTTP installation. Better to be safe than sorry,
