THG3000 IPv6 | Expert Mode

THG3000-IPv6
4: Newbie

I have left Sky after many years as FV got a deal online for £15.63/2Y contract.

Been connected to Vodafone on VDSL2 80/20 and the THG3000 Modem/Router today.

Somehow managed to switch the hub web interface to "Expert Mode" instead of "Basic Mode".

Changed the DNS to CloudFlare 1.1.1.1/1.0.0.1 and looking around to see
why the IPv6 isn't working, but everything looks good and Menus:

Internet - Firewall - IPv6 Settings: No IPv6 Pinhole define.

Settings - Local Network - Network Settings - Local Network - DHCPv4 Server and IPv6 is "On"

Settings - Local Network - Network Settings - Wi-Fi 2 - DHCPv4 Server and IPv6 is "On"

Yes, I know I can get IPv6 via an VPN provider on many devices and I use WARP from CloudFlare.

1] So can anyone in the know advise what is the status of IPv6 on xDSL lines on VF network?

2] Will I loose public IPv4?

3] Is the IPv4 static or dynamic and how often does it change?

4] Is there any other way to extract the xDSL username/password other than chat with VF?

Looks like your first post got stuck in the moderation queue, as it's only just appeared.

I'll try to answer your questions, but some are a little deep for me.

There is currently no native support for IPv6

2] Will I loose public IPv4?

Not sure why you think you may?

3] Is the IPv4 static or dynamic and how often does it change?

Dynamic, unless you request otherwise. Mine has currently been up for 69 days, and I've only seen it change if the router is rebooted/reconnected.

4] Is there any other way to extract the xDSL username/password other than chat with VF?

Not that I know of. It only takes a few minutes to get it over livechat.  https://www.vodafone.co.uk/bbservcd/

Thank you for your answer @Jayach, I see the post over here:

Is there any particular service that you want/need IPv6 for?  Obviously many (not all) third party routers will allow you play with IPv6 via services such as http://tunnelbroker.net

The downside obviously to using such a service is that you might not immediately notice when VF start rolling out IPv6

https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2021/11/update-on-ipv6-plans-for-virgin-media-talktalk-plusnet...

Yes, plenty of RaspberryPi's that want to talk IPv6 :Winking_smiley:

In that case I'd be looking at a router that can run Open-WRT or ASUS Merlin so that you have access to IPv6 via Tunnelbroker.net

I've several Raspberry Pi, running unbound, pihole, Wordpress, plex, and loads more - everything set up and accessible using IPv6

*I'd avoid Microtik, unless you want to spend more time playing with the router, in which case I'd go for a routerboard from Wally's! https://www.wallystech.com/Routerboard.html

@CrimsonLiar

Thanx, I thought that I read somewhere that the Tunnel Brokers will no longer be offering the service, but looks like HE Tunnelbroker.net still working, I will give it a try, shame one needs to register

I prefer MikroTik, already got home network x 2 build on their devices ......
https://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Other-broadband-queries/How-many-devices-do-you-have-connected-to-yo...

It's pain in the but, the IPv6 (RFC2460) is dated December 1998 so only 23 years 2 months old 2day so it's extra work to be done just to get the device to talk IPv6...................................................................................................

Just out of interest, does IPv6 work on CitiFiber/VF FTTP (GPON) network?

It must do, other suppliers (Vodafone do not have control of the infrastructure, that is Openreach/CityFibre) use it with IPv6. The problem is it terminates in Vodafone's servers, and they don't.

Is there any update on IPv6 on VF VDSL2 Broadband?
