I've noticed that on any mobile phone or tablet, the ping test to the router bounces all over the place.
It will go from 3ms to 47ms to 8ms to 67ms, always bouncing up and down.
But on a laptop it's a constantly 1ms or 2ms. Very stable.
Mobile devices and laptops are in WiFi... So why are phones and tablets so unstable?

Noise is a massive killer of wifi. This could be interference from a neighbour's wifi, a microwave oven, radar from a local airport, or weather radar. It's not unknown for kids to buy wifi blockers "for the laugh". Something in your environment is causing this.
