Slow and unreliable broadband in the evening

I've seen some posts about this , but they seem to suggest it's been fixed. Been with Vodafone since October and finding now that the speeds and reliability are poor in the evenings. Watching off iplayer and it will suddenly stop and pause for around a minute, several times. Really annoying. It's fine in the day. I've jumped through some hoops already, like changing from my own tplink router to the Vodafone one, made no difference. Also the tv is connected to the router direct with Ethernet cable and the tech person said to change the WiFi channel. When I explained that I didn't see how the WiFi channel would effect the wired connect she ignored it and insisted I change the channel of WiFi. Anyway. It's still happening. When I do a speed test while it's happening it can be anything from 1 to 15 mbps when it's usually around 35 to 40. Any help or advice?  I think it's due to more people using the internet but not sure. It's jumpy tv when using iplayer or itv hub, or Plex built in to the tv, but if I chromecast plex it seem ok which is odd. Help please

@Cliveawalsh Changing the Wi-Fi channel should improve your speeds if more people are connecting to one particular channel during peak times. As this hasn't resolved things for you, please pop us a message over on Twitter or Facebook where our team will be able to complete some tests with you and resolve this.

Changing Wi-Fi channels won't improve a device connected over Ethernet. The OP stated his TV is connected directly to the router via Ethernet and it still pauses and gets stuck.

It might have been my post that suggested it was fixed!  For the first time in a while, Saturday night was "almost" event-free here - hurrah it's fixed!  Unfortunately, the intermittent problem started again midday Sunday and continued into the evening!

As far as it goes here, when the slow down starts running a traceroute will show that from the NorthEast I'm connected via the DSLGB network to Vodafone's London datacentre.  Once the problem clears and WAN throughput rises back to normal (we don't lose connection to the cabinet or see our sync speed fall), our connection is back routed to the Manchester datacentre.

The three most recent events were:

Sunday 15th 21:50 for approx 20 mins

Sunday 15th 16:35 for approx 55 mins

Sunday 15th 16:10 for approx 15 mins

I wouldn't recommend going Twitter or Fb route... try phone... I went round in circles with multiple people over a couple of weeks and had to do security checks every two days... even though the details we simply above in the same chat.... once the Fb people got nowhere I then had to start again with the phone ones.

Hope you get it sorted... mine is still terrible but only evenings and not all the time... suspected speed throttling by Vodafone servers according to others on here.

I'm also having similar issues to everyone else in this thread. Peak time, websites take a while to load and loads of apps like Sky Go on the PS4, BT Sport, ITV Hub and many others fail to load video streams. It's really irritating. Speed tests never show there to be an issue. If I switch to hotspotting on my phone, everything works fine so there is definitely an issue in the Vodafone network.

I have proof with SPEEDTEST at 3

different times of the day. Evening it drops massively !!! This is with just the laptop hardwired in and WiFi turned off. I’m waiting on the complaints department to get back to me ........ speedgate continues.........

So I've switched back to BT and this is the results of my recent speed tests. Can you guess when I swapped over?
