Weird speeds

I have just had FTTP installed here. If I do a speedtest on Ookla with my phone, standing close to the routerr, I get in the region of 510Mbps average. I guess that is normal, it's over wifi.  I have plugged my desktop PC direct into the routers LAN port and get 450 down and 830 up. I tried changing cables (Cat 6) but no difference. This makes no sense to me whatsoever.

@billgnoe You're probably not being connected to the most local entry point to the VF network, e.g. you could be in Southampton and being connected to Edinburgh.

Can you update with:

are you on OpenReach or CityFibre?

are you using IPv6 (if so, disable it in the router)?

have you tried a router factory reset?

can you (from a PC) do a tracert to www.bbc.com and post it (do remember to hide your public facing IP address first) please?

have you searched this Forum?

I'm connecting to Edinburgh from down here in Berkshire on cityfibre. I'm getting 930 down + 800 up hardwired, 720 over wi-fi using an Asus router. When I experimented with the Vodafone router I recall it being somewhat less.
