Hi,
I use 4G as my broadband and have a 4G router. I've been pleased with this setup on the whole, but the past couple of months the connection has been less reliable. It started around the time that 3G was switched off - not sure if this is a coincidence or not.
The issue is drastic drops in speed or stalling of connection, lasting a few seconds to a couple of minutes. Not a huge problem when casually browsing web sites, but a real problem when streaming or downloading files.
However, if I enable a VPN this issue goes away and the connection is smooth and consistent. I have had to install a VPN on my Amazon Firestick in order to be able to watch any streaming service as without it, the playback frequently stalls and I end up in spinner hell. Similarly, I've had to apply a VPN to my PC in order to listen to BBC Radio or downloading files without it frequently stalling.
It seems to me that for some reason there is over-aggressive traffic shaping applied to my account. What can I do?
Thanks,
Ben.
