When will Vodafone support SMS over Wifi Calling?

When will Vodafone come out of the dark ages and finally implement SMS over wifi calling?

Given Wifi Calling spec (voWIFI/GAN/UMA) incorporates SMS (and MMS) support, why is Vodafone's implementation limited to voice calls only - did they buy cheap kit off the back of a lorry perhaps?

Vodafone had a rolling list of phones they would support with 2FA SMS. I know S10 works and I have S20 Plus myself. Text verification from PayPal comes through in about three seconds. Meanwhile it is impossible to send MMS photos, but I have to live with that. I will try to find the Vodafone list of phone rollout.

Thanks for the info.  Seems it's still a Vodafone issue.  The phone upgrade is not what I want to do right now as the S9 is fine otherwise.  No chance of 5G out here in rural Dorset.

I have just investigated and discovered that after 4 years of floating the idea, Openreach will be at our village church next Monday with a view to installing a Vodafone mast inside the tower of our church.  Once completed I will have no need for wifi calling, which drains my battery at a fearful rate and I will be able to receive SMS messages once more.  What a happy coincidence.  The Church moves in mysterious ways....and very slowly.  It's win, win as the church will get an income from this.

Seems like the church have been more useful than Vodafone anyway!

Still no signs of adding support for my phone for SMS over WiFi, despite the fact it's a simple thing to do - a matter of policy not to support it rather than technology. Annoying.

My wife has a S9 running on Voxi. I've just put it into WiFi Calling mode and sent her a text. She got it in seconds and I received the usual delivery receipt

Can't see Voxi being different. The handset is using stock samsung firmware Android 10

I agree. Some phones will and some phones won't. I'm not sure what Voxi is, however. If it is any consolation, I had to buy a new S20 phone to get text 2FA bank codes. Otherwise, drive half a mile to a rise in the land, then dash back and put in the code. There are S10 second hand but I cannot be sure they will work as well as those with Android 11 software.

Good to hear of your church rescue mast. Mysterious ways indeed.

Voxi is infact Vodafone. Originally it was their youth brand but now it supplies to anybody.

Uses Vodafone SIM cards and Displays Vodafone on the handset.

Not just the church moving in mysterious ways! Voxi Vodafone. Whatever next?

I think you need Android 11 software. Bank and PayPal are so important I think you may need to upgrade the phone to S20 or find a second hand S10? Reports of EE are good so that is another option.
