I have full fibre 500 MB per second using the THG3000 router.
I’ve never had anywhere near that speed, and it’s usually maximum of 250 MB per second via ethernet.
The difficulty has always been upstairs.
The Wi-Fi has always been rubbish up there, but the last six days it has been 0 to 30 MB per second.
I spoke to Vodafone last week he didn’t understand me when I told him I had a broken leg and couldn’t go down the stairs to look at the router.
Finally went through this today for them to tell me to upgrade to pro Wi-Fi and pay £15 a month more for the exact same speed. I only upgraded in June.
I’m not very happy with technical support. Today was just ridiculously bad and slow, repeating everything again and again that I’ve done before , finally the manager told me to buy a Wi-Fi extender I asked which one to buy and also why they couldn’t send me one given it’s their shoddy equipment that likely at fault.
He just said buy any one.
But it seems from other forums that not just any Wi-Fi extender will do it with this router, so could I have some recommendations please or I’m off.
I’m terminally ill, and only go out for chemotherapy.
We can’t get to sky where we are as there is a 100 acre wood right by us, so we rely on iPlayer, Netflix, prime, et cetera. I’m really fed up.

It could be a while before your picture is moderated, Just a model number will do.
Is it connected to the router via Ethernet or Wi-Fi?

TP LINK AC 1900
Sorry, I didn’t realise you couldn’t see the photo.
Thank you.

And is it connected to the Vodafone router wirelessly or with an ethernet cable?
If it is connected wirelessly, then it's not likely there is anything wrong with the Vodafone router,
If it is connected by an ethernet cable, it is working in access point mode, so it doesn't eliminate the possibility of the Vodafone Wi-Fi being faulty.
Has it solved your Wi-Fi problems?

Hello,
It is wireless.
Why is the WiFi better from the extender than the router? It makes no sense to me!

To be honest, it doesn't really make sense to me either, but if the extender is working upstairs, it must mean the Wi-Fi signal from the Vodafone router is strong enough to reach there.
The extender could be giving a stronger Wi-Fi signal than the THG3000, but the fact it is giving good speed test readings means it is also getting a good speed from the Vodafone router.
The really strange thing is that it worked fine on a 200Mbs line and no longer seems to work properly now you are on 500Mbs.
Have you set it up so the TP-Link is duplicating the Vodafone SSID (wireless name). or is it using a different one?

Hello.
Its set up with a different name.
The original speed (as I go back and check it) remains woeful.

If the extender is upstairs, what kind of connection do you from it downstairs? Is it still better than you get to the THG3000 downstairs?

If the extender is upstairs and I am downstairs it’s still 185 on WiFi to it.
It’s still better than the 17mbps I get off router.
Thanks
Vodafone directors office not much use. I have been issued a deadlock letter as they ‘don’t guarantee the WiFi speed only the fibre coming into the house.’
Thanks for that! 😂

I would agree with the powerline suggestion by .@Jayach as I am also using TP-Link AV-1000 devices, although a different model because I am not extening Wi-Fi but just my LAN into an unmanaged 8-way switch.
For reference, this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-TL-PA717-Powerline-Network-Ethernet/dp/B0B1M5Z6XD/ (TL-PA717 KIT).

Thanks for the replies and kindness shown so far.
This is the log this morning.
It’s just pathetic.
I’ve been through all of the tests now several times with Vodafone ‘technical’ department. They allegedly sent updates to my router and ‘You will surely see the benefit in 2-4 hours.’ Waste of time.
All they could tell me was to buy wi-Fi extenders. No advice given as to which one and clearly on searching this forum, there are a number that are incompatible with my router.
I have one coming today from Amazon, I am hoping it’s compatible, but if this doesn’t work then I’m moving broadband because their help is non existent.
Where should I put this extender?
I’ve emailed the Vodafone directors office.
