Fiber causing interference on MW even when turned off

So I am getting a pulsating low signal buzzing noise from around 1010 to 1550 khz which I never had before my installation. If I put a radio right near the round disc even with both the router and BT box switched off it's realty bad bit like going near a cheap power supply

Is the cable going to my house from the telegraph the other side of the road to me causing this ? What's odd if I go outside and put the radio near the square grey box I don't pick up anything at all

First up take whatever you are using to detect the issue and move it towards a large metal, but non-electrical object, to test that it's not your receiver that's faulty or wiring just working as an antenna!  If you are using an energy saver "mains conditioning" plug, then remove it - this is a possible future conversation...

I'd suspect that if you placed whatever receiver it is that you are using near any outlet on the same ring main - even with nothing plugged in - you will get the hum.  Test it to see if that's the case!  If it is, see if the hum disappears if you turn off the circuit breaker.  If that cures it, then you'll need to unplug *not just turn off* everything on that ring main to see if the issue remains with the breaker both on and off.  If the issue remains with the breaker off, then you have an issue external to the ring main, or possibly in the consumer unit itself.  To cure that situation you'll probably need a qualified electrician!  Alternatively, if the hum had disappeared, then you should be able to go around testing what happens as you plug devices back in one by one!

Good luck, and keep us updated.

I'm assuming this is a full fibre (FTTP) installation and the BT box is the ONT.

But what is the "round disc"?

You're finding problems everywhere.

It's the nature of wifi. Any rapidly switching radio would produce the interference you describe. Turn off all the WiFi/DECT in your home, you'll see.

Good news though, it won't affect Radio Caroline on 648 kHz.

I amazes me. Broadband along with online access to radio content and someone still uses an AM radio.

If the interference is so concerning turn everything off. Even electronic clocks give off radio interference.

I still use it in the car, I don't have DAB, and there is nothing on FM I want to hear. (I probably need a new car, mine is so old I suspect some posters on here are younger)

OMG, you know those working tape deck mechanisms can be worth a fortune (not a joke)!

Yes the ONT box, next to it is a small round module which even with everything unplugged still emits strong interference with a MW radio right next to it so rather bizarre. I guess the phone line / fiber connection is still radiating this even with as I say everything unplugged
