IF YOU ARE USING A THIRD-PARTY ROUTER THAT WORKS 100% WITHOUT BUGS.PLEASE PM ME THE MAKE AND MODEL SO I CAN UPDATE THE LIST
The first thing you need to do is ask Vodafone for your username and password. live chat with Vodafone is best because you can copy and paste the name and password into the router. ( some users did write it down wrong. password is lower and upper case. username watch out for zero and o )

FTTC SETTING ( FTTP is below FTTC)

TP-Link Archer VR400 V3 AC1200 Wireless MU-MIMO Dual Band (1st Advanced tab, change the Operation Mode to Wireless Router Mode (the ONT is acting as a modem, hence it will not work if you are in DLS Modem Router Mode). 2nd Do not enable VLAN ID or it will not work! Vodafone will tell you to set it to 101, if you do this it will not work! Keep the default MTU size (1480), do not change it to 1492, as suggested in several posts in this thread, or it will not work!.

Must check the page numbers before I post.

No worries, yes all working with no problems at all, I have the Archer ax6000 v1 version with latest firmware so not sure if that's something to do with it?
I'm only using the wifi and direct connections to a switch too.

What VF package ae you on and what speed tests do you get with the new router?

I'm not sure who the question is aimed at but here's my setup
Pro II full fibre 900
Router ASUS AX58U V2
City Fibre network
As for speeds it really depends on what time of day you do the test as this varies a great deal in my experience but I've had well over 800mb on both download and upload so well happy
29-08-2023 10:14 PM
900 pro and getting close to that
30-08-2023 07:54 AM
Are you on the cityfibre network or the openreach network?
I may look at the TP-link Archer AX6000.
So far my attempts to use 3rd party routers on the VF/Cityfibre network have yielded quite poor performance with the 900mb package.
My original router was an Asus AC87 which only able to get around 500-600mb download. Similarly, the Draytek 2865 had the same speeds. I then tried an mini PC router with OPNsense installed and that had slight improved to 700mb. Only the original VF supplied THG3000 can consistently get the full 900mb download during testing.

Hi, just want to leave my own experience here.
I just switched from Plusnet FTTC to Vodafone FTTC. I stay using my Plusnet Homehub 2 in bridge mode with my Asus XT8 without any problem. PPPoE settings as always BUT no vlan settings are required. vlan 101 will result in broadband not connecting. I guess it's the reason the BT/ Plusnet modem is default using vlan 101 and any additional settings will make a crash.
I am happy the Plusnet modem just works and I don't need to buy an extra modem to ditch the original one :D.

That's interesting, as the BT consumer version of the same device - Smart Hub 2 (SH2)- doesn't have a bridge mode (the business version apparently does). Even with settings that should allow the SH2 to work nicely with other kit, it tends not to!
13-09-2023 08:22 PM
Indeed, actually i joined plusnet for the bridge mode modem in the first place. Heard the BT SH2 is locked and not usable in other broadband, but there is little to none people actually reports using Plusnet SH2 in other broadbands. Usually i am a read-only user, but i am happy to share and let fellow users know it works!
This is my second day using this setup and i find no problems at all with wfh vpn / gaming/ surfing.

Wow, that chap does like to talk, even on double speed it went on forever. (I really dislike YouTube videos for that very reason)
Is the Netgear really better? It seems to be a fairly basic router. It appears to be an older design than the THG3000. What about it do you find "better"
What you are trying to achieve is the second method he describes, so the first example doesn't apply to you, so only follow his description from 10:35 - Double NAT Setup with Phone Line
Personally I always try to stay away from double NAT, but many people use it without problems.
So, if you follow his method, what doesn't work for you?
Oh, and are you on FTTC or FTTP?
