IF YOU ARE USING A THIRD-PARTY ROUTER THAT WORKS 100% WITHOUT BUGS.PLEASE PM ME THE MAKE AND MODEL SO I CAN UPDATE THE LIST

The first thing you need to do is ask Vodafone for your username and password. live chat with Vodafone is best because you can copy and paste the name and password into the router. ( some users did write it down wrong. password is lower and upper case. username watch out for zero and o )

https://www.vodafone.co.uk/contact-us/index.htm

https://www.vodafone.co.uk/bbservcd/

FTTC SETTING         ( FTTP is below FTTC)

The setting is the same for all the routers it's down to the isp (the setting page will be laid out differently but the setting are still the same, eg

Vodafone setting are

Vlan ID - 101

enable 802.1q (not on every router)

Username  - ******@broadband.vodafone.co.uk

Username - ******@businessbroadband.vodafone.co.uk  ( for business customers )

Password - ********

PPPoE

MTU Size : 1492

rest of the setting auto detect when the router and the dslam are negotiating with each other

TP-Link Archer VR400 V3 AC1200 Wireless MU-MIMO Dual Band (1st Advanced tab, change the Operation Mode to Wireless Router Mode (the ONT is acting as a modem, hence it will not work if you are in DLS Modem Router Mode). 2nd  Do not enable VLAN ID or it will not work! Vodafone will tell you to set it to 101, if you do this it will not work! Keep the default MTU size (1480), do not change it to 1492, as suggested in several posts in this thread, or it will not work!.

@Jayach Kind of funny having 3 THG3000's . i have got 2 THG3000 one of them the wifi does not work and I also have got two THG3000G Router, all four came directly from Vodafone. I am not with Vodafone anymore and now use a Linksys router, but to be honest, I have tried about 6 different routers in the last 6 months linksys, dlink, Adtran, and Edge, and I would say the THG3000g is better than any of these routers i have tried .linksys had issues with LAN, dlink had issues with wifi. Adtran had issues with the DNS

It's strange isn't it? I think the THG3000 is not a bad router, just too locked down, but I understand the reasons for that. (I also have the DGA4231 with the same circuit board as the THG3000, but different firmware)

But then you get posts like these:

https://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Broadband-connection/Not-allowed-to-set-up-a-smart-home/m-p/2741609/...

https://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Other-broadband-queries/THG3000-wifi-performance/m-p/2741623/highlig...

And you just have to wonder.

Yes, we get examples of faulty vf routers , just as there are faulty Asus, Netgear,........ (insert brand here). There will also be bad examples of your DGA4231 too. I see no reason to be critical or worried about the THG3000's hardware - as you said it's just the firmware that's locked down.

@markluk

Do let us know how it goes when you get your own router.

If you have joined on PRO II it will be the new Ultra router, otherwise it will be another THG3000, and do let us know if they supply the VoIP adapter. Some seem to get them and some don't.

Will do - I did sign up for Pro II 👍

Regards people slagging off the THG3000, you see the exact same type of post on the BT forums - again it's a decent piece of hardware just very locked down - and I can understand why ISPs lock the routers down.  If it's possible to do something stupid, it'll only be a matter of time before someone does it!
*Back in the 1990's at an ISP our net-techs managed to persuade managers that the only way they could get a server to work fast enough was for it to have liquid nitrogen cooling. £10,000 later and after one large bang, and three people hospitalised...

I am currently on BT FTTP  (900/100) using an RT-AXE7800 and if I understand what I am reading here correctly when I switch to Vodafone FTTP  - all I'm actually changing is the user name and password?

(I don't care about digital voice).

That's correct. In your case, all you need is your PPPoE login details from vodafone and you're away.

And it was indeed - switched over this morning - just changed the login details as you suggested and we were up and running.

(although BT switched off at 1am so my Sonos never wake me up this morning!)

Hi all,  just popped in to add this version of ZyXel to the list, the ZyXel VMG3925-B10C, picked it up on Ebay for the princely sum of £8 +post. Excellent wi-fi coverage much better than the vodafone item and speed in general a tad better. Apparently had been used with Plusnet earlier so all i had to do was enter the new User and Pass and off we go. Slight downside if you could call it that these days is the digital voice. It does have the port for that same as the vodafone but i`m assuming it would be a bit of a palaver to get that working?
