IF YOU ARE USING A THIRD-PARTY ROUTER THAT WORKS 100% WITHOUT BUGS.PLEASE PM ME THE MAKE AND MODEL SO I CAN UPDATE THE LIST
The first thing you need to do is ask Vodafone for your username and password. live chat with Vodafone is best because you can copy and paste the name and password into the router. ( some users did write it down wrong. password is lower and upper case. username watch out for zero and o )

TP-Link Archer VR400 V3 AC1200 Wireless MU-MIMO Dual Band (1st Advanced tab, change the Operation Mode to Wireless Router Mode (the ONT is acting as a modem, hence it will not work if you are in DLS Modem Router Mode). 2nd Do not enable VLAN ID or it will not work! Vodafone will tell you to set it to 101, if you do this it will not work! Keep the default MTU size (1480), do not change it to 1492, as suggested in several posts in this thread, or it will not work!.

RT-AX86U ?
(from user) I managed to connect Asus DSL-AX82U modem/router and use it without Vodafone Wi-Fi hub finally. When use Asus router tutorial choose network provider as BT - Infinity. VLAN ID come up automatically as 101 then just copy your Vodafone username and password

Yes, the MX4200 will connect directly to the ONT. If the ONT is definitely openreach (white) then vlanid should not be used. I dealt with one of those router's the other day and found it was much easier to set up with the wizard after a full reset. ymmv

Thanks for your suggestion for setup, I'll give that a go. It is the white Openreach one as per this You Tube video:

Is the BT Openreach indoor wall mounted network termination point (the actual ONT being the box outside the house) a modem?
I've no idea what is going on, my previous reply has disappeared ( I suspect it's because I put a link in it)
The ONT is the box inside the house, it is sometimes (incorrectly) referred to as a fibre modem.

Spoke to Vodafone last week to get login info for a new router for our business Broadband, got all that. Didn't mention that not all modems are compatible, assumed it wouldn't be an issue.
Bought a TP Link AX3000 as already have one in the house and it works great with my home broadband.
Plugged in, entered the email and PW that vodafone gave me on the PPOE thing, alas nothing works and no internet connection.
Phoned VF support, who said (took them 35 mins to say it) that this particular TP Link router isn't compatible.
1) Are they right?
2) Recommendations of a similarly priced (£70ish) one that does work. My main issue is range, we've got a Chromecast connected in a room 15m away and it drops out occasionally with the VF router, so want something with stronger signal so that stays online. The AX3000 fixed a similar issue in our house which is why i bought it.

@cgfw201 Firstly check that VF gave the right password.

1. They're wrong. An old openreach compatible list from bygone ages isn't cutting it, especially as all the listed routers aren't even available anymore. Even the thg3000 isn't on that list.
2. Your ax3000 will work, with the correct settings. If you still want to change it Black Friday is just around the corner, watch out for the GLiNet Flint 2 (GL-MT6000) - a definite bargain if it drops below £100 anywhere.

If its any use to anyone - I installed the Unifi Cloud Gateway Max over weekend. Rock solid and it is automatically running speed test every day and looks rock solid on my 1000/110 connection.

Interesting, suspected that. I'm not particularly literate with these things.
I installed it using the TP Link app, and when I could choose from Dynamic ISP/PPOE and some other bits, i chose PPOE and put the UN & PW in there that VF gave me.
Is there any other settings I should be looking at other than that? I've seen things like DNS and MAC and IP mentioned but I have no idea what any of those are other than they are there in the settings and I tend to leave them alone.

Don't worry about DNS or MAC. IP is automatic so forget about that too. Did vf give you a vlanid? If you have the white openreach ONT you can forget about vlanid too. As @Cynric suggested, contact vf again for your PPPoE details - easiest way to check for mistakes. Username is in the format dslXXXXXXXX@broadband.vodafone.co.uk and the password is 9 digits.
