Additional: the X-Plore app will connect to the share but to open the share it wants an in-app purchase. This is annoying, but at least it will confirm the connection credentials if it does nothing else for you.

Google file manager hasn't got option for network storage and Xiaomi file manager going through SMB and asking for username and password 🙄

On the Google App store there is an app called X-Plore by Lonely Cat Games. With that I can connect to SMB on Raspberry Pi. I know that this is different to what you are doing, but it may just be worth a try.

@Manjeet I did have the idea of not using credentials, but it's so long since I last used the Vodafone router I didn't want to suggest it as a solution in case my memory was wrong. Glad it's sorted it out for you.

Yo, I know this is a year to late but to fix this for anyone with the same issue I've found the solution using the built-in android network storage explorer
Go add new then do network drive, let it find it e.g. will find IP 192.168.1.1 then you add the path to the end of it but use a forward slash! not a back slash ignoring the \\vodafone.broadband bit so.... 192.168.1.1/drivenamekingstonblahblah
The port 445

And you're good to go! Hope this helps!

I had this issue where it was asking for a username and password on both Windows and macOS. Tried logging in as guest but it didn't work. The following credentials worked for me though:
Username: guest
Password: 1234
