Solution

Using a separate managed switch and W-Fi hub with Vodafone Broadband

I'm a little confused.

I hate the interface for managing my devices connected to ethernet and wifi, and also need a couple more Gigabit ethernet ports, so was thinking of using the vodafone hub as a modem only.  (The broadband interface kinda works on pc and laptop, but the managed devices such as my echos, wifi plugs, laptops etc are not appearing for me on the broadband app on ipad or iphone.)

I've done this in past with virgin, and it's easy to do.  I cannot for the life of me find a setting to switch the vodafone hub to modem only mode.

Help!

.@belfastbiker If I have understood you properly, then your VF router is connected to the internet and all you need to do is ...

On the router turn off DHCP and WiFi (and optionally DNS)

Plug switch into one of the LAN ports

On switch enable DHCP (or wherever you are serving that, e.g. pihole) and optionally DNS

Plus your WiFi device into the switch

Tell your deivices the new addresses for DHCP, DNS etc

Tell your devices that the gateway is the router (e.g. 192.168.1.1)

Sit back and watch the flashing lights

I've done something similar using two routers, but that natually means I am double-NATing. Double Nat is not a problem for my use.

Be confused no longer… the Vodaphone hub is a combined modem and router.  It has neither a modem only mode nor a router only mode.  As such, there is no mode switching setting to find.

I always successfully used a fully populated unmanaged Linksys 8 port switch with my HHG2500 and then the later THG3000 Vodafone routers. but as I have long since retired the VF supplied hub in favour of a third party solution I have no absolutely idea what the app does or doesn't do in respect of devices connected via the switch.
