Well Geolocation ever be correct?

So I started with the gigafast service in December and then I was on DHCP and my IP location was pretty accurate or atleast it knew what Government district maybe even the exact town I was in, just like my previous Isp before vodafone.

In January though I moved to a static IP and that all changed, it now shows me either around Watford or Northampton area...I'm in West Yorkshire  You might think this isn't an issue but when more and more services especially cloud storage and download services are using this information to pick as close a servers as possible for maximum speed it becomes a ball ache having to always double check, and often it auto resets.

Also I appreciate its not 100% accurate thats why in my original post I didn't say it should identify my house, but this isn't even the same county or the same end of the country.

Geolocation database services are used an awful lot less than you may realise.  Here in the UK the shortage of available IP addresses pretty much means that the resolution is simply to the level of being in the UK.  Cloud and download service locations are more often than not chosen by routing servers on the internet that completely ignore any geolocation lookup data.

If you are worried then you can try using the pathping command from a windows command prompt, or mtr in various other OSs.
