Why the phone number is invalid

Firstly: I live neither in the UK nor in Italy.

On August 5th 2021 I bought a Sim card in Milan Malpensa airport.

I now try to use this phone number to register for the Vodafone website, for the purpose of keeping it active for my future travels to Europe.

When I insert the phone number on both the vodafone.it and vodafone.co.uk website, I get the message "Verifica il numero inserito" (Englsih: Check the number entered) on vodafone.it and "Please enter a valid Vodafone number." on vodafone.co.uk.

Why is that? Does it mean that this line is not active and therefore I cannot proceed the action on the website?

Any help or advise would be highly appreciated.

When you acquired the Sim Card in Milan did you insert it into a mobile phone to activate it, and top it up to get it activated  ?

Payg sim cards are supplied un activated so need the above action to get it up and running and then typically the network starts to send Welcome messages and apn settings to get Internet set up.

If you didn't top up / insert the sim card then depending on how much time and effort you want to spend on this then it maybe an option to bin the sim card and when you manage to pick up another sim card you activate it.

Other than that you could contact the countries Vodafone Network Customer Services in question via their Live Chat,  phone number or Social Media Team's if applicable and see what they can do for you.
