I had a dispute with voda in 2017 where i was being charged for data which should of been included as part of my plan. Long story short I escalated and never got a response so I perhaps naively cancelled my DD. Still no contact from voda other than bills which I ignored.
I still 100% believe the complaint was not handled correctly but it’s past that point now. I have an adverse notification on my credit file as a result of this. This is genuinely stopping
Me from getting a mortgage. Because of the severity of this I would be willing to clear the balance (reluctantly) if voda were willing to remove the adverse notification. Is this something which can be done? It wasn’t just a case of me not paying there was far more to it. I need help with this urgently please.

Hi @Stemull
I do appreciate your viewpoint on what happened with your dispute over data usage and billing, however by ignoring the bills you will have put yourself in the position of having a default added to your Credit File which will stay on there for 6 years.
By ignoring the bills you put yourself in the position of not running your account within the Terms you agreed to.
Right now I suspect the default will show as outstanding which will look poor to any searches.
Paying the monies will then mean the default will show but instead then as settled ,which looks better when a search is conducted.
But the default will remain on your Credit File for the term of 6 years from the original default date.
Some mortgage companies will look at accepting if there is only that default and shows as settled. You may need to shop around though.
You can speak with the Vodafone Social Media Teams as they have a dedicated Credit File Specialist Team. But if the default is warranted and from what you write it is unfortunately I'm not confident they'll remove it as they have a duty of care to report warranted defaults.

I agree that it may be difficult to get the credit file marker removed completely. However, an avenue worth exploring would be whether, if you pay the outtstanding amount, it can be changed to Settled, which would have a lesser impact on your record. You could also put a note on the file yourself explaining the circumstances.
Do speak to Credit File Support. They're the only people at this stage who will have access to the account and will make the final decision (it will be final, I'm afraid).
