Leaving Vodafone

Hello.

I'm currently waiting for my Vodafone mobile contract to expire.  Apparently is ends on the 25th October 2021.  As I'm pay monthly, I believe I pay in advance, so can anyone confirm that if I request a PAC code after my September payment and leave before the 25th October I will have nothing else to pay?

Incidentally, if anyone from Vodafone marketing wants to know why a customer who had both broadband and mobile is leaving a technically good service (and desperate to do so) - feel free to get in touch and I'll try to explain.  Starting with the awful customer service (that chatbot is as useful as a chocolate teapot) and being overcharged for months!

many thanks

Hi @lonesheepma

Sorry your thinking of leaving.

You can leave in a few ways.

Ask for a pac near to the end of your contact date and give that to your new Network within 30 days of Vodafone giving it to you and this will end your contact and move your number to your new Network.

Or if you don't want to retain your mobile number ask for a STAC instead.

Or give Vodafone 30 days notice your leaving near to the end of your contract date by phoning them on 191.

Another option is to ask for your contract to be changed to Vodafone Payg which takes 30 days and ends your contract.

All the relevant info is in cancel-your-account.

Vodafone customer services via Live Chat or 191 or the Contact-us-for-account-specific-queries can officially clarify.

They can't speak to you from your post here as unfortunately there is no account access via this forum.

If you follow my contact us link and link back your your post here including your forum username they maybe able to help you further.

So the best option is to end your contract as close as possible to your contract end date, not any early upgrade date.

Please don't cancel your direct debit as Vodafone will do this when they end your contract. Cancelling the DD too early can stop any payments or refunds needing to be completed which can cause issues with your Credit File.

Thanks for the reply.

The issues I had with my Samsung phone were only just the beginning.  I fail to see how a phone which has lived in a case for all its live, is transported in a bag and only surfaces on a desk within an office can have "Traces of liquid contamination/ingress on the sub-pba usb charging port of device.".

I had to pay £59 to get that fixed as I had no way of disputing the claim as they had the phone by that stage and I needed it back for work - as when working from home communication was kind of important.

It is also odd that my wife and son, who both have Samsung S10, have also had charging issues with the devices (exactly the same issue I had)...although we have never had any charging issues previously with any other devices.  Needless to say, I'm also dumping Samsung and going back to Apple.

From the chat messages I take it getting the PAC code before the 25th and using it on the 25th is the best way to leave without incurring cost and providing Vodafone with minimum additional revenue - at (their) best 1 or 2 days.

Hi @lonesheepma

Yes using your Pac as near to as possible to your natural contract end date is the best option.

In regards to your issues with Samsung phone's.

I've used sevwral Samsung phone's for years and have had not experienced the issues you have fortunately.

Personally I find the manufacturer better at dealing with their hardware and software which is why I would only let a Samsung Experience Store or Samsung Service Centre  or Samsung Doorstep Repair engineers have access to my phone's.

I have come across instances where a phone's internal liquid sensors have been tripped and the owner stating no liquid had come into contact with the phone. This issue can sometimes be connected to sudden weather  / climate temperature change which can cause droplets inside the phone.

I wish you all the best with your new iPhone if you choose that route.

Take care.

Hi @lonesheepma

I am sure we have met previously when you had a problem with your Samsung phone, hope you managed to get the phone repaired and haven't have any further issues.

You can certainly leave one month before the contract end date, but as you will still be paying until the 25th October, you might as well benefit from a service you are paying for, if you request your PAC on the Thursday or Friday before and give it to the new provider on the 25th Monday, with you being out of contract, the contract will immediately end and apart from any out of bundle extras, there will be nothing further to pay.

However, since you have had so many issues with overpayments and are not impressed with the Customer Service you have received, with the Social Team being part of Customer Relations, they would be able find the reason for the incorrect charging and you may be entitled to a refund.

One thing I have always found with the Social Team is they will go above and beyond to help when there have been mistakes.  You can contact the Team direct through Twitter or Facebook social channels here: Contact Us Hopefully, the Team will at least restore your confidence in Vodafone before starting as a new customer with an alternative network.
