I've been within Vodafone since 2016 on pay monthly contracts. I have recently upgraded with Carphone Warehouse (which I also did in 2020 with no issues). It appears that I accidentally opened a new account (even though I'm sure I went through the upgrade section). My myvodafone is still showing my old contract so I know they haven't connected the accounts. I've been sent a new SIM card with a new number but I'd like to keep my old one. Has anyone ever done this? I'm hoping someone has a solution before I have to spend ages trying to speak to someone over the phone. Thanks !

Yes @sarahhirstxo , there are some previous threads and examples on the forum, if you put the question into the search facility at the top of the page these will come up.
You are going to need to cancel the previous contract, the quickest way is to PAC out the number you wish to keep on PAYG to any other network and PAC back in on the new Carphone contract, you can find how to get the PAC by text following the guide here: Cancel Account The other way is to ask Vodafone to put the number on PAYG, this is going to take 30 days to compete and move the number to the new contract here: Keep My Number
Keep the new contract, it will be a lot cheaper than going the third party upgrade route. If you go the PAYG route to transfer the number, the account will automatically change to PAYG after 30 days and you continue to use the same SIM and no need to add any credit.

Thank you very much, that was very helpful. As you suggested I contacted Vodafone this morning. The sent me to a short form to change the contract to PAYG and gave me the link to transfer the number over after 30 days. I actually can't believe how simple it was. Hopefully there aren't any issues once it comes to swapping the number over. Thanks again!

I don’t understand in 2022 how Vodafone can’t just move the old number onto the new contract without faffing about with PAC’s etc…

It might be also worth asking Carphone Warehouse to resolve this for you.
If its your error then as said there are ways to get your old number onto the new contract.
There are two avenues this can be achieved
First way is to Cancel the old contract and ask for the number to be moved to Vodafone Pay As You Go.
The mobile number will be arrsnged to be moved to Pay As You Go after a period of 30 days. You will then receive a brand new PAYG SIM card to activate, and top up the minimal amount to get everthing activated on the Vodafone network.
You will then be able to transfer the mobile number to the new contract you've set up.
The second option is to ask Vodafone for a PAC to move the old number to an alternative Uk Mobile network and then use the sim card as Pay As You Go on the other alternative network and then when all is running as it should with your mobile number ask for a PAC to move the mobile number onto the new contract that's been set up.
It's a few hoops to jump through and can seem daunting at first but should be seamless if followed correctly @sarahhirstxo
If I can be of any further help then please don't hesitate. Take care. 😎
