Only getting edge since last night

I have been with Vodafone for about a month now on a brand new S24 Ultra and all has been great.

I turned my phone off last night and since I powered it back on I can only get 2G (Edge) whereas previously it would be 4G or 5G. This is independent of location - my partner is also on Vodafone (iPhone) and they are fine. Have also driven 200 miles today and it was 2G all the way.

Have tried all of the obvious things - checked 4G/5G is on, rebooted phone, reset mobile network settings, checked APN etc. all to no avail.

What can cause this and what is the fastest way to speak to someone who can actually fix this? The person I spoke to on live chat seemed to be less knowledgeable than me and was more interested in telling me about offers!!

Thanks.

The phone has temporarily lost it's connection to the 4 and 5G network @rahayden84 .  Try updating the SIM on the network by completing a manual roam here : Manual Roam

If you continue to have problems speak to Vodafone through customer service channels or drop the Social Team a message here: Contact Us

Unfortunately that did not help. I have also since tried the sim in another phone (Pixel 6) and I see the same behaviour (only getting 2G/EDGE).

It took me ages to figure this out, trawling through Reddit and various forums. It's due to the signal thresholds that Vodafone have set. For example of a 5G signal is very weak the phone will switch down to 4G if the 4G signal is stronger. If a 4G signal is below a certain level then the phone will switch to 3G - but now there's no 3G... So it goes to 2G as there is usually a strong (stronger) 2G signal around.

On an Android phone, go to settings -> Network & Internet -> SIMs -> Vodafone. Scroll to the bottom of the page and turn off the, 'Allow 2G' option. Now your phone won't have 2G as an option and will therefore cling into 4G for longer.

I did this and all my signal problems are gone. It's not Vodafone's coverage that's the problem, it's Vodafone not updating the device profiles - they could literally fix this overnight but they haven't even acknowledged it.
