The SIM will be pre activated for a new contract with a new number @ameliabrereton but can take up to 24 hours to connect to the network.
If you are porting over a number, unless it is a weekend when numbers don't port on any network, it will take around the same time and Vodafone will send a text to let you know the number has transferred.
