Sim swap not working

I have just received a new sim card as part of a sim only pay monthly deal. I am looking to replace my current vodafone sim card with this whilst keeping my current phone number, I went onto the sim swap form and I got the error message "The SIM number you entered appears to be invalid. Please check and try again". I have now done this a few times with no luck. 

I notice that the new plan has appeared on My Vodafone with a phone number attached to it. Am I not able to swap my current number to this new plan when the new plan already has a phone number on it? 

Any help understanding this would be greatly appreciated.

The SIM swap won't work.  The problem here @Sergeant_Tammi is it looks like you may have taken a new contract when you should have upgraded your current Vodafone contract.

 

The easiest way to solve this would be to return the new contract under the 14 day cancellation and upgrade your current Vodafone contract.  The other alternative is going to be complicated, to get the number you wish to keep on the new contract is going to mean porting out the number you wish to keep to any other network on PAYG and porting back in on the number you wish to keep.
