Transfer of Phone (iPhone) and number contract

Please I need more information. A friend of mine bought an iPhone and a Vodafone number for me last year June, 2021 He has been paying for the contract. Currently we are no longer  together. Is it possible for him to transfer both the iPhone and number contract to me so I can continue with the payment. Or what solution is available for me as I do not want to be indebted to him. Thanks

Hi @Melonie

Ask your ex partner to complete this form this will transfer the number to your name: Transfer number and Agreement you will then need to accept the contract into your name.

Please remember if this is an Evo contract here: Evo  only the airtime agreement will be able to be transferred, the device part of the contract is a credit agreement and you would need to make arrangements directly with your ex for the device part of the contract.

This will be subject to the usual credit and identity check criteria.

@Melonie

If your ex logs into his account or Application he will be able to find exactly how much is owed on the iphone part of the contract, you can then make arrangement with him for the balance.  When the device part of the contract has been paid, the airtime contract will end and continue on a month to month 30 day basis.  At least you will have the number in your name and will be in a position to upgrade or continue as SIM only.

Thanks so much for your response @AnnS

This information is really helpful

He/she can complete a transfer of ownership form and put it in their name, or they can request a PAC via text and get their own pay monthly / pay go account and transfer the number over to their new account.

The account is in the ex's name, if there is more than one number on the account this has to be completed through the online account.  You can't just port out a number that is not in your name, there are security procedures that need to be followed.

Yes @WelshPaul but this is providing the device part of the contract has been paid off by the account holder,  Otherwise, if the contract is just ported out it's going to defeat not wanting to be indebted to her ex something the OP is wanting to avoid.

At least if the device part is repaid to the ex partner hopefully this will be repaid to Vodafone.  With the number and account in her name it will be the OP's decision on how to proceed.

The other alternative is to return the phone to the ex partner and he can sell the phone to recoup the device cancellation charges.

You can PAC out at any time... Sure, you're liable for any remaining minimum term along with any handset payments but as long as you're willing to pay the final bill, it's an option. I wasn't suggesting anyone PAC out an stick someone with a debt! Just saying it's an option.

Yes @WelshPaul you can PAC out at any time, but the contract is in the name of ex name, and you can just bet there is more than one number on the account and the PAC wouldn't be able to be requested by text and would need to be requested through the ex's account.

The best way is to get the number in the correct name is to pay off the device loan part of the contract, this will end the airtime contract leaving @Melonie to decide the way she would like to proceed.

You're making assumptions... You maybe right, you maybe wrong... It's not even about being right or wrong! Again, I was just pointing out their options. Maybe try sending the text and request the PAC and find out? It's impossible for anyone here to give accurate advice without looking at the account in question and the op credit file. Either fill out the form, PAC out (if possible) or keep paying the ex (if they are willing).

Speak with your friend as I'm sure they won't want to have this loose end not sorted out either.

Discuss with the friend the option of a Transfer of Ownership or another option is having you as a named person on the account and the billing details changed to yours so you pay, however your friend would still be ultimately liable for the account.

Ask them to speak with customer services on 191 , Live Chat or the Vodafone Social Media Teams via Facebook Messenger or Twitter DM and they'll advise what options are open to get this sorted.

We here do not have account access being customers like yourself so do not know the status of the account.

I wish you all the best.  :Smiling:

To save confusion for the OP, can you please get one of the Team to put in a reply to this thread.

Thank you.
