Today I checked if I was eligible for an upgrade using the upgrade checker on carphone warehouse. (contract ends 21/03/2023). After completing the verification and checks it had said I was eligible for an upgrade and that I could browse my options.
I picked a phone & plan to upgrade on my pay monthly. (unlimited data)
After getting emails about the order being succesfully processed and being shipped, I decided to log in to my vodafone account to check and see if my current plan data cap had been upgraded yet, but it was still at 72GB(current cap).
INSTEAD, there was another number on my account with a separate plan that has the unlimited data plan.. so I knew there was an error somewhere.
So instead of upgrading my current plan, they have added on a secondary plan. Which makes no sense because I went through the entire "upgrade check process".
I contacted vodafone via live chat as it was after 8pm, and the person had told me I was to contact C.W to see about the issue as they didn;t think they could help.
After years of upgrading through C.W and being sent out a new phone, putting my old sim in and no problems etc, it seems like a phone is now going to be delivered tomorrow with a new sim/number that I don't want to use. I just want to put my current sim in the phone and move on as normal...
I've read where I might need to go down a PAC route or something, but am I on the same boat as those people or will C.W fix this for me or "merge" the accounts/plans? Surely you wouldn't think it would be so complicated nowadays.
If I look at any other methods of sorting it, will I be left without being able to use my phone or current number for any period of time? I'm stuck and worried as I use my phone for work on a daily basis.

Thank you so much for your detailed explanation, they help me a lot in terms of working out my future finances
It makes sense to upgrade in April like you and others have said.

It's worth adding that I don't do this myself 🤣. I tend to go in January because there are often very good offers and I get a lot more for my money. Swings and roundabout, basically.

I don’t blame you and totally understand that.
Currently I’m looking at 24 month contracts on the iPhone 13, CPW seem to have better deals that Vodafone themselves, with around £220 savings and i feel like you can negotiate with them more & like you said Vodafone’s increase only comes on the airtime of the plan.
So I’m in two minds 😂

The alternative would be to switch to SIM only and buy the phone outright SIM-free. That might be cheaper initially, but you'd have to factor in the cost of finance if you're using that. Vodafone's device prices are higher than you can get elsewhere, but are interest free. (Even more swings and roundabouts for you!)
