WiFi Calling unreliable

Wasn't sure what board as nothing seems to fit, this seems closest.

I have an iphone SE on contract with Vodafone.  I have a poor cellphone signal at my home ad used to have sure signal which worked until the box died and now they no longer sell it.

So I have switched wficalling on.  It works intermittently,  At the moment I have 1 bar on the cell signal, and 3 on the wifi connected signal.  WFicall is showing.

I tried calling BT (as my home provider) using this and with the signal strength.  I gt through went through options then the call died.  It happened three times when I gaveup.  I have  BT Home Hub 5.

Also sometimes the WiFicall text simply disappears.  My friend lives here and has an iPhone of some kind and also can't make reliable wificall calls.  if I move around to a place where the cell signal is better than I can reliably make calls, although I don't think via wificall.  The problem appears to be that WiFi call is unreliable.

Any ideas why this should be?  I did try setting airplane mode but it made no difference.

I live in North Norfolk between Sheringham and Cromer.  We have been told that the signal is good here, and it is fine down the road, but there is a very poor signal spot at my house.

Hey @pobpob , if the issue only happens with the phone out of airplane mode, this does suggest in issue with the device prioritizing a specific network type. As with all radio-based systems, service may also be affected by a number of local factors which are outside our control - this could include things like changing phones.
Do you have a different device you could test out to try and rule this out?

I also have this issue. I rarely get a mobile signal in the house so I got a Vodafone contract because of WiFi calling. I only occasionally manage to get WiFi calling, sometimes it can be nearly a day before it suddenly picks up and then drops 30 mins later. I have a Orbi mesh router and good download speed. It feels as if I am cut off from the world as I can’t make calls

OK after extensive testing this is what I have found.

I have multiple wifi networks - mesh  2.4 and 5 and direct to router  and it makes no difference as to which one I use. I'm using 2 different samsung phones, they both behave in a similar manner.

My broadband connection is fine - Zen internet.

1) Switching to airplane mode normally does nothing.

2) switching wifi networks on my phone does nothing once it stops working.

3) Once the phone, for whatever reason decides wifi calling is not available, game over until....

4) Restarting the phone appears to solve the problem most of the time.

Conclusion: wifi calling on the actual phone is the issue. It is unreliable and buggy.

I also suspect the interference to my WiFi may cause problems and moving the mesh access point to a new location, even only a few centimetres away does have an effect.

Vodafone should never have given up on Suresignal, the boxes were unreliable but better than this.

Yes, I have exactly the same issues - very poor phone signal (either nothing or one bar), sure signal turned off and wifi calling dropping out after a few seconds of every call. In fact the last of these has become so serious I can't use the phone to make calls at the moment. I have stupendous wifi at lighting-fast fibre-optic speeds and wifi calling worked for some months without a problem in the past. So there's no doubt that this is wholly a new Vodafone issue with wifi calling.

Conclusion - a) I live near Oxford so there's no excuse at all for such poor Vodafone signal b) Vodafone need to sort the wifi calling out instead of trying to blame other devices in the building or wifi signal strength.

For me Vodafone wifi calling only kicks in if the phone deems the signal is too weak, I have a basement flat and even and 1 bar it was constantly switching back and forth leading to quality issues.

Try putting your mobile on aeroplane mode and then manually turning wifi back on. This way the phone has no mobile signal and defaults to the wifi call 100% (at least it works for me)

Hi, thanks. But this isn't the issue. The phone picks up wifi calls and then cuts out every single time after about 20 secs. I've reset everything, including network settings. My wife has the identical phone and it works without any problem with wifi calling. So it's nothing to do with the strength of signal, wether wifi or network. This is a problem with this particular phone handset - and one that many other people have had.
