Series 4 Apple Watch Cellular doesn’t work

So, in typical Vodafone fashion they have come out with a new feature and product that doesn’t work at launch - in-fact it does several unannounced and unauthorised credit checks.

So I received my brand new iPhone and Apple Watch today and I have to admit, they look fantastic, after opening the iPhone box and just seeing the magnificence that is the phone I am definitely happy with my purchase.

I open up the oddly packaged watch box and start to set it up, everything is fine except for when I got to the mobile data setup section- at first it looked promising a Vodafone log-in screen, “Awesome” I thought, so I logged in and all of a sudden it was asking me to add a subscription for £5 per month.. I thought this was strange as I was already paying for the watch now you’re trying to charge me more for a subscription, I knew it seems to be a mistake so I just glanced at the terms, it seemed normal just about linking them together so it made sense, I went ahead and clicked add subscription knowing that I would just call Vodafone and explain the situation if they tried to charge me more.

Anyway, it shows me a loading screen and I’m simply waiting for it to complete the link between my devices.

After a short while it went to a blank white screen and then... what’s this... I HAVE FAILED A CREDIT CHECK AND I HAVENT BEEN CHARGED?!?!?

So not only did it fail.. Vodafone has performed a credit check, without authorisation just to link it to my existing plan that I was already credit checked on?

Good one Vodafone, will be returning the watch and the device and leaving the network for good, this is the final straw, I’ve had nothing but trouble with you for 7 years and I’ve stuck by you, but you just cannot get anything right first time, EVER.

wondering if anyone else had this happen to them.

Hi everyone,

OP here, I can’t believe this issue is still effecting some people, I get emails almost daily about updates for this, it’s crazy to think it still hasn’t been sorted for everyone.

i can now finally say all of my issues are resolved and everything is working fine, you have to be persistent and contact the directors team, standard help from the tech team does not work.

Contact Nick Jeffries team and hopefully you will get I resolved like I did.

Do you have any idea how or why it suddenly started to work??????

Not clue but it doesn't work on he watch only shows it on the waf h appo

You just can not make this up.

So I increased my tariff as I was told it was the only way my watch would work took 56 minutes a lot of time listening to Fleetwood Mac. Given £30 comp for inconvenience (max I could get I was told)

New tariff became active so tried to add mobile data got a new error too any devices please call 191. Which I did more listening to Fleetwood Mac - had to change Mobile data setting, same stuff you all would have been told to do. Tried adding mobile date more promising this time lots of spinning wheels setting up data plan etc.

ONLY to fail you have failed credit check!!! I already have a Data plan for the watch setup at the start of the week.

So called 191 more Fleetwood Mac finally got to speak to someone said very sorry etc I will have to escalate to technical team will take up to 7 DAYS!!!!

How can VF be so incompetent!

The credit check failure is the default error message. You get it if you've got an open order or plan and then try adding another Apple watch subscription.

In your case the problem is you've got a plan, but no way of associating it with your watch. You might be lucky and speak with a knowledgeable team member who can do this with your EID number, some  believe they've had success that way.

With other carriers the sign up process recognises you've already got a plan and allows you to either create a new plan, or use your watch with an existing plane.  Vodafone don't provide this option.

Here's Verizon walkthrough of the process

Thanks for the info - I really don't think I can face calling VF again today (had enough Fleetwood Mac for one day) on the slim chance that I get to speak to "knowledgeable team member"  may be tomorrow

I honestly wouldn't hold my breath. I was in the same boat and the EID number did nothing. Still, if you haven't tried it, it's probably worth a go.

Just finished on the phone with someone from the directors complaints office

Was asked for the ICCID which shows no sim

This then took the person by surprise

The EID match and the plan shows up on the phone but seems to be unable share to the watch,

I've given up trying to contact them at the moment, I'll just wait now for them to fix it however long that takes then decide renumaration etc once it's sorted

These Vodafone people we speak to are so thick!!

Ive been told to wait 72hrs what a joke.

so far

been moved to a diff tariff as I was told to..

have 2 numbers on my account now ( is this right )

gave somebody my eid number and still nothing.

nobody has a clue..they just roll off the same crap from a script!

quick enough to take your money!

hey Vodafone...I can’t sync my direct debit to my bank?

would that work!!

I would like to know are any of you having problems with Vodafone sourced iPhones and watches. I have been told my problems are due to mine being purchased directly from Apple

Mine was sent directly from Vodafone 👍
