Pixel 3xl drops calls after half hour

My pixel 3xl drops every call (made or received) after exactly 29 minutes and 50 seconds. I don't know if this is related to phone settings, network or what so wondered if anyone had had similar issues or knew of a fix. It's a real pain in the backside as currently working from home and means I get cut off in every conference call!

Hi all, I have a Pixel 3 on Vodafone and have the same issue. I followed some advice to disable WiFi calling on my account (webpage) and on the settings on the phone. After a reboot I am now able to call > 30 mins! Hope that helps!

@Gemma  No problem. As I've said before it isn't you guys fault personally and I know you are just repeating the company line. But why still selling the phones with this problem if it is a fault? It doesn't make any sense to me.

I've got a Xiaomi  Poco F3 phone currently and am on Lebara and I have the 29 minutes and 50 seconds issue. I really hope this is resolved soon but it doesn't sound like it's going to be. Lebara customer services told me it was my handset that's the issue ☹️, clearly it's not.

It's definitely not the handset as I have tried multiple sims of different networks and they all work fine apart from my Voxi SIM which is using the Vodafone network. So they cannot say it's a handset issue, it's clearly a network issue, which they have no idea how to resolve as this has been going on for years. Also for the admin on this forum, this is not a reflection on you as I know you have tried to help, I just think it's something that Vodafone just doesn't know how to fix. It's such a shame as the signal is so good and I have never had issues, other than when I want to make a call longer than 29 mins and 50 seconds.

I've run some tests, both mine and my daughter's phones cut off at 29mins 50, with the WiFi calls turned on and off and with the WiFi calls off and my WiFi turned off too, so her SIM card is also suffering with this fault as I've made calls from both phones and left them running, and I come back to them a few seconds before 29.50 and they cut off at that point. I can force my phone to pick 2g/3g to make calls and this is the only time that I've managed to get a call to go beyond the cut off. It's a work around for now for phoning the doctors etc but clearly Vodafone need to sort this out (although that seems unlikely from what I'm reading on here)

Yep, that's the work around I use by manually selecting my preferred network to 3g/2g but when they turn the 3g network off this year, I imagine signal is going to become awful. Also if you had to make an urgent call (say to Emergency services) and forgot to change it and then got cut off at a critical moment, it could have awful consequences. It would appear it's been going on for years with no fix, so I can't seeing it being resolved any time soon unfortunately.

Try this it works for my Poco X4

During your outgoing call put it on hold for a few seconds. Anytime before 29m 50secs will do.

You don't need to change any settings, it will work on a 4G call.

@Baysik, thanks for the heads up, I can confirm I just tried that and it worked on my Sony Xperia xz3. Call went on for over an hour.

@xmoderator,  please can this be fed back into the tech support as a key factor in their investigations.

Please can others with this issue try on their phones.

Confirm also that it works with my Wife's xperia xz3 as well. @Baysik, how did you discover this trick? Was it just by trial and error or did you find it some other way?

Just to add also, we both tried with the call hold at the very beginning of the call.

Poco X4 Pro 5G owner here.

Thanks for the suggestion. I can confirm that placing the call on hold (for just over a second in my case) resulted in the call NOT terminating at 29m 50s. Yippee!
