Best location for Sure Signal

I read on the Telegraph review that the Sure Signal Box should be located away from the modem for best results - is this really the case? Anyone know how far makes difference and how much difference? Also is there a difference with the "location" option  - ie if I put it upstairs rather than on the ground floor and plug it into switcher? Thanks for any help or opinion!

It is generally recommended to separate the 3G signal transmitted from the SS from the wi-fi signal transmitted from a wi-fi router by at least the length of the supplied one metre cable. It won't do any harm and may be beneficial to separate these devices further than that (i.e use perhaps  a two or three metre cable), and it's probably not a good idea to put the wi-fi router and SS directly adjacent to one another.

There was some discussion many months ago about the best location for an SS, and suggestions that the SS (V1 at least) tended to radiate more signal upward than downward. I certainly found that I got better coverage throughout the house with the SS downstairs at desk height rather than on top of a tall bookcase, so I'd suggest downstairs rather than upstairs.

I put mine in my attic as the router is in the front wall of my dining room so I had no coverage in the back garden or courtyard. Now I get a signal all around the house inside and out, not noticed any problems with lack of signal downstairs either.

Obviously my option does require networkwiring throughout the house so may not be that easy to replicate unless you're re-wiring the house like I was! (I put network ports in each room to a central 1gig switch in the attic)

Thanks for the suggestions/experiences. I've recently run ethernet upstairs and into another room so I'll get a switcher and relocate to these points for a few days and see what the best result is.
