Credit rating nonsense.

I have just applied online for new phone and contract after cancelling my current EE contract which is due to expire very soon. Went all the way through the online pages and eventually refused credit. This is ridiculous and exactly the same thing happened last time I took a contract with Vodafone. Like many i was advised to speak with Experian (i think this is a con and a way to channel people to the Experian website). Same as last time I have gone into Experian and discovered rating of just under 900 (unsure why its not higher if i am honest).

I called Vodafone and just as last time they said speak with Experian. I told them to check again as credit rating is just shy of 900. They said ifs confirming credit is refused. This is a joke. The last time this happened I was told to try again until i was approved. I ended up with 3 new accounts. Received phone and all was well until I was sent another message advising my phone was instore ready to collect. After much confusion and having to go to the store and basically show them i already had my phone they cancelled it although It took months to get money back as I was paying £80 upfront. Soon after I received another message "good news your phone will be despatched on xxx date" eventually cancelled this and had to wait for another £80 to be paid back into my account. So this time although i applied twice just to see if the first refusal was an error I have not signed up to Vodadfone (or have I)? I made a quick call as I have said to Vodafone and they were quite uninterested. I should have listened to my promise from years ago, NEVER EVER TAKE A PHONE WITH VODAFONE.

Hi @RussB

I appreciate your unimpressed with the situation.

When I'm discussing this type of topic I do advise that even having a good credit rating does not guarantee acceptance.

Sometimes people apply for a few things around the same time so can look to anyone conducting a search that they could be overstretching themselves.

Also to let at least 90 days to pass before applying again.

Vodafone wouldn't be able to discuss why a person has not been accepted due to the current data protection laws.

I wish you all the best in which avenue you decide to take.

Hi @RussB

This will be one for the Team here to look into.

When you apply for a contract online, the credit check is not done at the same time and generally takes a few days to be cleared.  You mention that you applied twice in succession, and this may possibly be the reason.  If this is the case, Vodafone may well have kicked out the application due to suspected fraud, you only need to apply once and Vodafone will send you a confirmation email, followed by a further email to let you know the delivery information.

It is unlikely your credit rating stopped the order going through, as you mentioned, this happened previously and you had three contracts.

I hope you get this sorted and will soon be a Vodafone customer.
